The first lady of Kaduna State is an advisor to the Kaduna State governor, and often plays a role in social activism. The position is traditionally held by the wife of the governor of Kaduna State, concurrent with his term of office, [1] [2] although the Constitution of Nigeria does not recognize the office of the first lady. [3] The current first lady is Hafsat Uba Sani.

First ladies

The current first lady of Kaduna state who is the spouse of the governor is incumbent since 29 May 2023 and she is Hafsat Uba Sani. At present, there are five living former first ladies since 1999 when democratic rule was restored in Nigeria: Hajiya Asma'u Muhammad Makarfi (1999–2007), Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo (2007–2010), Mrs Patrick Yakowa (2010–2012), Hajiya Fatima Ramalan Yero (2012–2015), Hajiya Hadiza Isma El-Rufai (2015–2023).

El-Rufai also served as director of the Bureau of Public Enterprises. He is a co-founding member of the ruling party All Progressives Congress.

Ahmed Rufai Sani Yerima is a Nigerian politician who was Governor of Zamfara State from May 1999 to May 2007, and served as Senator for Zamfara West and Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hameed Ibrahim Ali is a retired army officer and former Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service from 2015 to 2023. He previously served as Military Governor of Kaduna State from 1996 to 1998. After retirement, he became Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum a political and cultural association of leaders in Northern Nigeria.

Muktar Ahmed Mohammed Aruwa was a Nigerian senator. He was first elected to the senate in 1999 as a representative of Kaduna State for the All People's Party (APP). Aruwa sat on several senate committees and opposed the privatization of public enterprises. He was re-elected in 2003 as a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the successor to the APP. He was involved in a dispute over committee appointments, claiming unfair play by the senate leadership. Aruwa's name was dropped from the ANPP party list for the 2007 election.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kafanchan Peace Declaration</span>

The Kafanchan Peace Declaration is a peace accord signed by five local government areas in southern Kaduna State, Nigeria. The local government areas involved in the process were the Sanga, Kachia, Kaura, Zangon Kataf and Jema'a. The five areas include 29 ethnic communities headed by 32 chairs. The declaration has been signed on the 23rd of March, 2016 in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The peace accord has been facilitated by the Swiss-based organization Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD).

Hafsat Mohammed Baba, is the Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development in Kaduna State. She was reappointed Commissioner Human Services and Social Development in July 2019 after serving as Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development from 2017 to April 2019. The new portfolio meant the erstwhile Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development was expanded to include Human Services, Youth Development and Arts & Culture which had hitherto been in other Ministries.

Hadiza Isma El-Rufai is a Nigerian writer (novelist), and wife to the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. She was the founder of Yasmin El-rufai Foundation (YELF), a non-profit literary organization.

Muhammad Sani Abdullahi popularly known as Dattijo is a Deputy Governor, Economic Policy at the Central Bank of Nigeria. He was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 15 September 2023, and was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on 23 September, 2023. Dattijo was a Commissioner for Budget and Planning in the government of Kaduna State, Nigeria and later served as Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. Prior to his service in sub-national government, he worked as a policy adviser at the Executive Office of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in New York where he worked with the core team which developed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dattijo is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute Africa Leadership program- ALIWA, and the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Institute.

Uba Sani is a Nigerian engineer and politician who is the current governor of Kaduna State since 2023. He previously served as the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District from 2019 to 2023.

Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe is a Nigerian politician and medical doctor who is the deputy governor of Kaduna State since 2019. She is the first female deputy governor of the state and was elected during the 2019 Nigerian gubernatorial elections held in March, under the platform of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress and re-elected in 2023.

Samuel Aruwan is a Nigerian journalist, and pioneer Commissioner for Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

The 2019 Kaduna State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. APC candidate Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai defeated main opposition party PDP's candidate, Isah Ashiru, to emerge winner of the contest. APC was said to have won 14 LGAs, PDP nine.

The 2023 Kaduna State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Kaduna State, concurrent with elections to the Kaduna State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.

Isa Ashiru Kudan is a Nigerian politician from Kudan, Nigeria. He is a business man and holds the traditional title of Sarkin Bai of Zazzau Emirate. He is the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party for 2023 in Kaduna State, Nigeria. He was previously the House of Representatives of Nigeria representing Kudan/Makarfi Federal Constituency from 2007 to 2015, and Member representing Kudan Constituency at Kaduna State House of Assembly.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Kaduna State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Kaduna State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.

The Kaduna Metropolitan Authorities in Kaduna State, Nigeria were originally known as local government or native authorities. The local government authorities were established during British colonial rule in Nigeria. The local government authority was headed by a district head. The authority was established to manage taxation, the production of cash crops, and their export to Britain. The authority in Kaduna City became obsolete in 1979, however, it was reintroduced in 2021 during Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai's administration.
