The first lady of Lagos State is the advisor to the Lagos State governor, and often plays a role in social activism. The position is traditionally held by the wife of the Lagos State governor, concurrent with his term of office, [1] although the Constitution of Nigeria does not recognize the office of the first lady. [2]

The current first lady is Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu. At present, there are eight living former first ladies: Taiwo Adefunmilayo Lawal, wife of Adekunle Lawal; Christine Nwanyife Kanu ex-wife of late Ndubuisi Godwin Kanu, Lady Doja, widow of Michael Otedola; Omolola Oyinlola, wife of Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Munira Marwa, wife of Mohammed Buba Marwa; Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Bola Tinubu; Abimbola Fashola, wife of Babatunde Raji Fashola; and Bolanle Ambode, wife of Akinwunmi Ambode [3] [4] [5] [6]

She also served as the first lady of Lagos State as wife of former Lagos governor, and current president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, from 1999 to 2007. She is currently the senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District at the Nigerian National Assembly. She is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) political party.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment is the state government ministry, charged with the responsibility to plan, devise and implement the state policies on Environmental Management.

The Office of the Secretary to the Government was tasked with administering cabinet concerns, security, establishments, home affairs, and information when the newly constituted Lagos State took off administratively in April 1968. The responsibility for information service was transferred to the military Governor's office as the business of governance got more complex.

He is from the Ojora, Aromire, Shokun and Abisogun branch of Oniru royal families of Lagos State. He became the 15th Oniru of Iruland on 7 June 2020 after the death of Oba Idowu Oniru in September 2019. He was presented with the staff of Office by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on 7 June. 2020. Prior to his enthronement, he was the Commissioner for Agriculture in Lagos State.
