Fisnik Maxville (also known as Fisnik Maxhuni, born 1992 or 1993) is a Kosovo-Swiss film director, screenwriter and producer.

His directorial debut The Land Within premiered at the 2022 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival where is received the main award "Best First Film" of its category. [1] [2]

Early life and education

Born in Pristina, Kosovo, Fisnik fled to Switzerland with his family at the age of five. Growing up in Neuchâtel, their refugee status had to be renewed until obtaining Swiss citizenship in 2005. [3]

After a Bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Geneva, a Master's degree in geopolitics from King's College London, he continued his studies with a Master's in film directing at ECAL/HEAD (Lausanne-Geneva/ Switzerland). [4] During his studies he co-directed in Sarajevo a short film, Ministarstvo Sjecanja, under the mentorship of Hungarian director Béla Tarr. [5]

His graduation short film Lost Exile (2016) premiered in Locarno Film Festival and won a jury prize. [4] The film tells the story of Hana, a Kosovar immigrant trying to illegally emigrate to Europe but is being smuggled through a prostitution ring. [6]

Career

After graduating, he co-founded his production company Visceral Films in 2017, where he produced, wrote and directed a short film, The Valley of Happiness which was shot in Iran and went on to premiere at the 41st São Paulo International Film Festival. [7]

In 2018, he co-directed his first feature length documentary, Zvicra , that explored over the course of two years questions relating to integration in Switzerland, through several Kosovo-born protagonists living in Switzerland. [8] Two years later, in 2018, he directed a portrait documentary about Bernard Challandes, a Swiss football coach heading the newly-founded Kosovo Football National Team, co-produced by the Radio Télévision Suisse. [9]

In 2019, Maxville was part of the Ateliers d'Angers screenwriting lab, [10] followed in 2020 by a participation at the Berlinale Talents cohort. [11]

In 2021, he premieres his documentary Nostromo, shot in the Artic circle of Canada, following Olivier, a Frenchman living by himself on a small island. The film premiered at the 2020 Visions du Réel documentary film festival, it was awarded the SRG SSR Award for Best National Film. [12] The film went on to be presented at the São Paulo International Film Festival 2021 and the 2022 Solothurner Filmtage. [13] [14]

His directorial debut The Land Within , a co-production between Switzerland and Kosovo, premiered at the 2022 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in the First Feature competitive section. The film received the "Best First Film" award. [1] After being part of the 2023 Locarno Film Festival in the Panorama section, [15] the film makes its Kosovo premiere as the opening film of the Prishtina Film Festival 2023.

Early 2023, Maxville announced his upcoming feature project Cotton Hands and participated in its development at the Atelier Grand Nord in Canada. [16]

In April 2023, he was invited to be part of the Zonta jury at the Visions du Réel festival. [17]

Susana Schnarndorf Ribeiro is a Brazilian Paralympic swimmer. In 2005, after a lengthy triathlon career, at the age of 37, Schnarndorf began to experience the first symptoms of a mysterious degenerative disease that was later diagnosed as multiple system atrophy (MSA). After a break from professional athletics, Schnarndorf returned to the sports world as a swimmer and is presently a member of the Brazilian Paralympic Swimming Team.

Juliana Rojas is a Brazilian filmmaker who was born in Campinas, São Paulo. She graduated in Cinema in Escola de Comunicação e Artes da USP where she met fellow Brazilian filmmaker Marco Dutra. This was the beginning of a long partnership between them. In 2004, while still in school, they codirected a short film called Lenço Branco. Their short film was part of a section of the Cannes Film Festival that is dedicated to university films, Cinéfondation. Three years later, in 2007, Um Ramo, another short film directed by Rojas and Dutra, would be nominated to Semaine de la Critique of Cannes Film Festival. In 2011, her first feature film would be premiered in the Festival, in the "Un Certain Regard" section. Her film, Good Manners was nominated in 2017 at the Locarno Film Festival. She has also worked as an editor.

Serras da Desordem is a 2006 Brazilian film directed by Andrea Tonacci. The film reproduces the trajectory of Carapirú, an Awá-Guajá Indian, who sees his tribe invaded and massacred by farmers and loggers. Serras da Desordem won the best film, direction and cinematography awards at the Gramado Film Festival.

<i>Erased</i> (2018 film) 2019 film

Erased is a 2018 Slovenian drama film written and directed by Miha Mazzini based on his own novel of the same name. World premiere was at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2018, 25. November 2018, while Slovenian one was on 25. February 2019.

The Fever is a 2019 internationally co-produced drama thriller film written and directed by Maya Da-Rin, Miguel Seabra Lopes and Pedro Cesarino and starring Regis Myrupu and Rosa Peixoto. Featuring dialogue in Portuguese and the indigenous languages Tukano and Tikuna, it features a main cast of indigenous Brazilian from the Upper Rio Negro, belonging to the Desanos, Tucanos and Tarianas people, many of them whom had their first experience in cinema.
