Flavor Unit Entertainment is an American entertainment company originally launched in Jersey City, New Jersey, but is now based in Miami, Florida, United States. [1] [2] The company was founded by Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere in 1995.
The company produces films and television shows. In February 2013, Netflix signed an exclusive multi-year licensing deal with Flavor Unit Entertainment. Netflix will have its pick of movies produced by Flavor Unit Entertainment to debut on its streaming service. [3]
In April 2014, Flavor Unit Entertainment entered into an exclusive programming partnership with Centric to re-brand the cable television channel as the first network designed for the black woman. [4] The deal includes bringing Flavor Unit Entertainment's Single Ladies to Centric for a fourth season.
On April 26, 2017, MTV announced that they were rebooting the slasher television series Scream in its third season, with a new cast and setting. As part of the reboot process, it was revealed that Brett Matthews would be serving as the main showrunner. In addition, Brett Matthews, Latifah, Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty were added as executive producers for the series under Flavor Unit Entertainment. She has received various accolades, including a Grammy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two NAACP Image Awards, in addition to a nomination for an Academy Award. In 2006, she became the first hip hop artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Flavor Unit is a crew of emcees and DJs from New York City and Northern New Jersey. It is now known as the Unit. The original version of the crew centered on producer the 45 King. It was Mark's connections to radio personalities DJ Red Alert and DJ Chuck Chillout that initially got the crew noticed, but the original members also all had formidable rhyme skills and wrote streetwise lyrics. The 45 King eventually fell into serious drug abuse and Queen Latifah took over the name; it became her umbrella organization. Flavor Unit Management is run by Latifah, one of the original members of the Flavor Unit, and Shakim Compere. Past management clients were Monica, Outkast, Faith Evans, Total, SWV, Almighty RSO, Groove Theory, Monifah, Gina Thompson, LL Cool J, Zhané, Donell Jones, and Naughty By Nature.
Brett Matthews is an American writer of comics and television shows. Matthews graduated from Wesleyan University in 1999. He was an assistant to Joss Whedon on television shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly. In addition, he scripted the Firefly episode Heart of Gold. In 2004, he wrote the screenplay for the Direct to DVD animated movie The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury.

It is the reboot of the original series of the same name created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. The series is co-created by executive producers Lindheim, with Sloan, and Queen Latifah, who also stars as the titular character. John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Andrew Marlowe, and Terri Miller also serve as executive producers. Lindheim died from heart failure on January 18, 2021, while working on the series; the series premiere is dedicated to his memory.
The Equalizer is an American spy thriller multimedia franchise initially co-created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. It originated with a CBS television series from 1985 to 1989 starring Edward Woodward. The concept was thereafter rebooted twice with a trilogy of movies starring Denzel Washington and a re-imagined 2021 television series, also on CBS, starring Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall. Original co-creator Michael Sloan has written a series of novels featuring Robert McCall, with the first volume published in 2014.
