Nicknamed le petit prince de Gerland (transl. the little prince of Gerland) by the Lyon fans, Di Nallo played 489 games and scored 222 goals for the club. In total, he scored 187 goals in the French Division 1, 182 with Lyon.
In his first full season with Lyon, he scored 21 goals in 23 league games, including three hat-tricks and four goals in six Coupe de France matches. He was capped 10 times for France between 1962 and 1971, scoring twice on his international debut in a defeat against Hungary (2–3).
From 2005 to 2008, he was coach of AS Misérieux Trévoux club. In October 2008, he signed with FC Corbas as sports adviser.

The 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup football tournament was the sixth FIFA Confederations Cup, held in France in June 2003. France retained the title they had won in 2001, but the tournament was overshadowed by the death of Cameroon player Marc-Vivien Foé, who died of heart failure in his side's semi-final against Colombia. Foé's death united the France and Cameroon teams in the final match, which was played even though team players from both sides had explicitly stated that the match should not be played out of respect for Foé. France went on to win the trophy with a golden goal from Thierry Henry.

It specifically refers to individual matches between the teams. Unlike Le Classique, the rivalry has no bad blood within it and, instead, stems from the competitiveness of the each club's players, managers, supporters, and presidential hierarchy. The rivalry is often cited as being particularly important as both clubs are of high standard in French football and the championship is regularly decided between the two. Marseille and Lyon are the only French clubs to have won the French first division four straight times with Marseille doing it on two occasions. The Rivalry is also comparable with that of between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund better known as "Borussen Derby" in Germany.
