Florence Brunelle (born December 20, 2003) is a Canadian short-track speed skater. [1]
Brunelle competed at the third Winter Youth Olympics held in Lausanne, Switzerland. Brunelle would go onto win the bronze medal in both individual events contested: the 500 metres and 1000 metres. [2]
Later in the season at the 2020 World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Bormio, Italy, Brunelle won two silver medals in the 500 metres and 1500 metres. [3] At the 2022 World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Gdańsk, Poland, Brunelle improved on her silver medal performance in the 500 metres, by winning the gold and becoming World Junior Champion. [4] [5] Brunelle would also win the gold in the 1000 metres event and was part of the 3000 metres relay gold medal winning team.
Brunelle made her senior debut at the 2021 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Dordrecht, Netherlands. [1] Brunelle made her World Cup debut in the 2021–22 season, where she won two silver medals in the women's 3000 m relay and the mixed relay. [1]
On January 18, 2022, Brunelle was named to Canada's 2022 Olympic team. [6] [7] [8] [9] At the Winter Olympics, Brunelle advanced to the quarterfinals in her only individual event the 500 metres, while finishing fourth in the 3000 metres relay and sixth in the 2000 metres mixed relay. [1]
Charles Hamelin is a Canadian retired short track speed skater. In a competitive career that spanned nearly twenty years on the international circuit, Hamelin participated in five Winter Olympic Games and won six Olympic medals, including a national-best four gold medals. Competing in all distances, he won thirty-eight medals at the World Championships, including fourteen gold medals, and also led Canada to five world relay titles. Hamelin was also the 2014 Overall World Cup season winner and the 2018 Overall World Champion, giving him all the achievements available in the sport.
Christine Nesbitt is a Canadian retired long track speed skater who currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. She won the gold medal in the 1000 metres event at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. She had previously won a silver medal in the team pursuit at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. She is also the 2011 sprint champion, 2012 1500 metres world champion, three-time world champion for 1000 metres, and three-time world champion for team pursuit. On 4 June 2015 she announced her retirement.

Valérie Maltais is a Canadian short track speed skater and speed skater. She has won six world championship medals, including finishing second overall in 2012.
Kim Dong-Sung is a South Korean former short track speed skater. He won a gold medal in 1000m race and silver medal in 5000m relay at the 1998 Winter Olympics. He has been a two-time Overall World Champion in 1997 and in 2002 and two-time Overall World Cup Champion.
Ivanie Blondin is a Canadian speed skater. She primarily skates in the long distances of 3000 m and 5000 m and the mass start event. Blondin won a silver medal in the mass start event at the 2015 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships and a gold medal in the same event at the 2020 World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships. She also won the silver medal at the 2020 World Allround Speed Skating Championships. She won a gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Women's team pursuit.
Laurent Dubreuil is a Canadian speed skater. He competes primarily in the short distances of 500 m and 1000 m. Dubreuil won his first World Cup medal during the 2014–15 season when he placed third in the World Cup stop in Seoul. He won a bronze medal at the 2015 World Single Distance Championships and a silver medal in the 1000m at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Kim Boutin is a Canadian short track speed skater. Boutin won silver in the 1,000 m and bronze in the 500 m and 1,500 m events at the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeonchang, Korea. She was the first Canadian female short track speed skater to win three individual Olympic medals in a single Olympics and the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in the 1,500 m. As a result of her three medal performance she was named the flag bearer for Canada at the closing ceremonies for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Boutin has also won junior and senior world championships and World Cup medals.
Pascal Dion is a Canadian former short-track speed skater and Olympic gold medalist.
Isabelle Weidemann is a Canadian speed skater. She is a multiple Olympic medallist, winning gold in the team pursuit, silver in the 5,000 metre, and bronze in the 3,000 metre at the 2022 Winter Olympics. She is the third Canadian ever to have won more than two medals at a single Winter Olympic Games following Cindy Klassen and Gaétan Boucher. Weidemann also previously won a silver and bronze medal at the 2021 and 2020 World Single Distance Championships in women's team pursuit.
John-Henry Krueger is an American-born, naturalised Hungarian that has represented both countries in his sporting events in short track speed skating. He was an American national champion in the 500-, 1,000-, and 1,500-meter events. He competed for the U.S. in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in all men's individual events and in the 5,000-meter team relay event, winning the silver medal in the men's 1,000-meter event. He left U.S. Speedskating after a history of tensions for the stated reason of unmet financial need, switching his allegiance to Hungary in 2018 in time to qualify for Olympic participation in 2022. He earned silver medals for Hungary at the European Championships in Gdansk in the 1,000-meter men's individual event and at the World Championships in Dordrecht in the 5,000-meter relay event. He is competing for Hungary in the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, where as of February 11, he had earned a bronze medal in the 2000-meter mixed relay.
Courtney Lee Sarault is a Canadian short track speed skater.
Maryse Perreault is a former short track speed skater who competed on the Canadian speed skating team from 1981 to 1990. At the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships during these years, she won over twenty combined medals in individual races and the 3000 metres relay. In the overall World Championships classification, Perreault was the 1982 ladies champion and had a top three placing in 1983, 1986 and 1989. Outside of the World Championships, Perreault won bronze at the 1988 Winter Olympics in the 3000 metres relay when short track speed skating was a demonstration sport. Perreault was named to the Speed Skating Canada Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1992.
The mixed 2000 metre relay competition in short track speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 5 February, at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing. This will be the first time a mixed short track speed skating event is featured at the Olympics.
