Florian Illies (born 1971) is a German writer and art historian.
He was born and raised in the town of Schlitz in Hesse. His father was the biologist Joachim Illies, and one of his school teachers was the writer Gudrun Pausewang. He studied art history at the universities of Bonn and Oxford. He worked as culture editor for major German newspapers such as Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Die Zeit . In 2004, he cofounded the contemporary art magazine monopol with his wife Amélie von Heydebreck. In 2011, he became a partner at the Berlin-based auction house Villa Grisebach. In January 2019, he joined the Rowohlt Verlag publishing house as a managing director.
As a writer, Illies is known for his bestsellers Generation Golf (2000) and 1913: The Year Before the Storm (2012). The latter book has been translated into two dozen languages. [1]

The Goethe Prize of the City of Frankfurt is an award for achievement "worthy of honour in memory of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe" made by the city of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Heiner Friedrich is an art dealer and collector of minimal art and conceptual art. Friedrich and his then wife Philippa de Menil, together with Helen Winkler, established the Dia Art Foundation in 1973. Friedrich has exhibited works by Blinky Palermo, Walter De Maria, Donald Judd, La Monte Young, Andy Warhol, Michael Heizer, and Joseph Beuys, among others in his galleries in Germany, but became less interested in short term gallery installations and through Dia began to collect, and support major projects, such as Walter De Maria's The Lightning Field (1977) in New Mexico and purchasing a former military base in Marfa, Texas to enable Donald Judd to create a permanent space for the installation of his large minimal sculptures.
