Floribert Kaseba Makunko

Floribert Kaseba Makunko (died 21 January 2014, in Belgium) served as ambassador to Zambia for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. [1] [2] From 2006 he served as a member of the National Assembly for the city of Lubumbashi in Katanga Province (in 2009, Haut-Katanga District) and as mayor of Lubumbashi from 1997 to 2006.

A decree of November 15, 2005 the President of the Republic, Joseph Kabila, confirmed Floribert Kaseba in these functions as mayor of Lubumbashi.

His many works advocating to clean the city of Lubumbashi have earned him the nickname "Bulaya 2000".

Floribert Kaseba Makunko has also invested in the campaign to the culture of peace and tolerance. He managed to bring together the Katangan and kasaïens under the ousted regime of Mobutu. This struggle has won him in March 2002, the Unesco Prize "City for Peace" for Africa 2000-2001, which was awarded to Marrakesh in Morocco during the sitting of the 107th Inter-Parliamentary Conference of Members francophones. Gecamines is engaged in the exploration, research, exploitation and production of mineral deposits including copper and cobalt.

Azarias Ruberwa Manywa is a Congolese politician, lawyer, and public figure. During the Second Congo War he was Secretary-General of the Rassemblement Congolais pour la Démocratie (RCD-G) rebel group. Following the war he was one of the vice-presidents in the transitional government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo between 2003-2006. He has also been the leader and president of RCD-G's political party since 2003. He is a member of the Banyamulenge community of South Kivu who belong to the Tutsi tribe.

Katanga insurgency

The Katanga insurgency refers to the ongoing rebellion by a number of rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, some of which aim for the creation of a separate state within Katanga. While the insurgency has been active in various forms since 1960, insurgent groups have recently redoubled their efforts after the 2011 jail break that freed Gédéon Kyungu Mutanga, who now commands the majority of the Katangese separatist groups.

Aimé Ngoy Mukena is a political figure from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who has served as Minister of Petroleum and Gas since 26 September 2015. He previously served as Minister of Defence and Veterans' Affairs under President Joseph Kabila. He is a founding member of the People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), one of the most influential political parties in the Congo where he served as its Executive Secretary in charge of interior and decentralization.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo there is a significant community of Chinese migrants located in the capital of Kinshasa and the mineral rich southern Haut-Katanga Province. According to official figures from the Chinese embassy, there are 5,000 Chinese living in the DR Congo, though the actual number is believed to be far higher. More recent estimates vary from 5,000 to 50,000. The Mining industry of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a main reason for Chinese people moving to the DRC.
