A hospital-acquired infection,also known as a nosocomial infection,is an infection that is acquired in a hospital or other healthcare facility. To emphasize both hospital and nonhospital settings,it is sometimes instead called a healthcare-associated infection. Such an infection can be acquired in a hospital,nursing home,rehabilitation facility,outpatient clinic,diagnostic laboratory or other clinical settings. A number of dynamic processes can bring contamination into operating rooms and other areas within nosocomial settings. Infection is spread to the susceptible patient in the clinical setting by various means. Healthcare staff also spread infection,in addition to contaminated equipment,bed linens,or air droplets. The infection can originate from the outside environment,another infected patient,staff that may be infected,or in some cases,the source of the infection cannot be determined. In some cases the microorganism originates from the patient's own skin microbiota,becoming opportunistic after surgery or other procedures that compromise the protective skin barrier. Though the patient may have contracted the infection from their own skin,the infection is still considered nosocomial since it develops in the health care setting. Nosocomial infection tends to lack evidence that it was present when the patient entered the healthcare setting,thus meaning it was acquired post-admission.
Multiple drug resistance (MDR),multidrug resistance or multiresistance is antimicrobial resistance shown by a species of microorganism to at least one antimicrobial drug in three or more antimicrobial categories. Antimicrobial categories are classifications of antimicrobial agents based on their mode of action and specific to target organisms. The MDR types most threatening to public health are MDR bacteria that resist multiple antibiotics;other types include MDR viruses,parasites.
The University of Lagos,popularly known as UNILAG,is a public research university located in Lagos,Nigeria and was founded in 1962. UNILAG is one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in the country in major education publications. The university presently has three campuses in the mainland of Lagos. Whereas two of its campuses are located at Yaba,it's college of medicine is located at Idi-Araba,Surulere. Its main campus is largely surrounded by the Lagos lagoon and has 802 acres of land. The University of Lagos currently admits over 9,000 undergraduate students annually and enrolls over 57,000 students.
Lagos State University,also known as LASU,is located in Ojo,with sub-campuses at Ikeja and Epe both towns in Lagos State,Nigeria. The university was established in 1983 by the enabling law of Lagos State,for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence;its motto being For Truth and Service. The university caters for over 35,000 students. The University was established during the Administration of Late Lateef Kayode Jakande. The university offers diploma,degree and post graduate programmes,including an MBA programme. LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020. On 23 June,2021,LASU emerged as the best young university in Nigeria having been below the age of 50 years to be added. Times Higher Education ranked the Lagos State University as the second best university in Nigeria on the 2 September 2020,and was the only state university included in the rankings for 2022. The university has attracted international funding,including for the establishment of a World Bank Group Africa Centre for Excellence on Science,Technology,Engineering,and Mathematics.
The Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta is one of the higher institutions of learning owned and run by the Federal government of Nigeria.
Eni Njoku was a Nigerian botanist and educator. He was vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (1962–1965) and the University of Nigeria,Nsukka (1966–1970). He served in the Nigerian House of Representatives as federal minister of Mines and Power,and was chairman of the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria. He was an emissary at OAU-sponsored peace talks.
Jacob Festus Adeniyi Ajayi,commonly known as J. F. Ade Ajayi,was a Nigerian historian and a member of the Ibadan school,a group of scholars interested in introducing African perspectives to African history and focusing on the internal historical forces that shaped African lives. Ade Ajayi favours the use of historical continuity more often than focusing on events only as powerful agents of change that can move the basic foundations of cultures and mould them into new ones. Instead,he sees many critical events in African life,sometimes as weathering episodes which still leave some parts of the core of Africans intact. He also employs a less passionate style in his works,especially in his early writings,using subtle criticism of controversial issues of the times.

Jelili Adebisi Omotola was a Nigerian professor of Property Law,Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN),educational administrator and former vice chancellor of the University of Lagos.
Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe was a Nigerian professor of Systems Engineering educational administrator and vice chancellor of the University of Lagos. He died from COVID-19 complications on 3 January 2021,during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

Oluwole Babafemi Familoni is a professor of Chemistry at the University of Lagos and member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria. Isaac Folorunso AdewoleFAS is a Nigerian professor of gynaecology and obstetrics. He was minister of health of Nigeria from November 2015 to May 2019 under the Cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari. He is a former vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan,and president of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer.
Kayode Ted Adams was a student activist at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) who became controversial in 1965 after stabbing then-Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Lagos,Saburi Biobaku.
Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe is a Nigerian academic and a professor of botany. He served as the 12th vice chancellor of the University of Lagos from November 2017 to November 2022.
Onyema Eberechukwu Ogbuagu is an American-born infectious diseases physician,educator,researcher,and clinical trial investigator,who was raised and educated in Nigeria. He is an associate professor at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven,CT and is the director of the Yale AIDS Program clinical trials unit. His research contributions have focused on HIV/AIDS prevention and COVID-19 vaccination and treatment clinical trials. He switched his focus at the beginning of the 2019 COVID pandemic and participated as a principal investigator (PI) on the Pfizer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine trials and the Remdesivir SIMPLE trial in 2020 and 2021. In pursuit of his global health component of his career,Ogbuagu also supports postgraduate physician medical education programs in low and middle income countries in sub-Saharan Africa in Rwanda (2013–2018) and Liberia as well as HIV treatment programs in Liberia.
