Liga I association football league in Romania

The Liga I, also spelled Liga 1, is a Romanian professional league for men's association football clubs. It is currently sponsored by betting company Betano, and thus officially known as the Liga 1 Betano. At the top of the Romanian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Contested by 14 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Liga II. The teams play 26 matches each in the regular season, and then enter the play-off or the play-out according to their position in the regular season.

Silviu Lung is a retired Romanian football goalkeeper. He was born in Sânmiclăuş, Satu Mare and debuted in Divizia A with Universitatea Craiova in 1974. He played fourteen seasons with Universitatea, winning two league titles. In 1988, he joined Steaua Bucureşti and won another league title the first season. He played in the 1988/89 European Cup Final against AC Milan, when Steaua lost 4–0. He also played abroad, in Spanish team CD Logroñés. He returned to Universitatea in 1992/93 and retired in 1994. After retirement he began his coach career and for over 20 years was the assistant coach or goalkeeping coach for clubs like: FCU Craiova, Național București, Nagoya Grampus, Pandurii Târgu Jiu, Astra Ploiești, Universitatea Craiova or Concordia Chiajna. Between 1995 and 1997 he was the head coach of Minerul Motru and earlier in 1994, of Olympique de Casablanca, these were his only jobs as a head coach, until December 2017, when he was announced as the new head coach of Liga III side, CSO Filiași.

Laurențiu Dumitru Roșu is a Romanian retired footballer who played as either a forward or winger. He is currently the manager of Mioveni.

Iulian Sebastian Filipescu is a former Romanian footballer, who was born in Slatina, Romania. He was a centre back or defensive midfielder who possessed strength and tough tackling as well as being dead ball specialist. A fluent passer and he also possesses good technique. He debuted in Divizia A with Steaua București in 1993. He could celebrate a league championship victory seven seasons in a row from 1993 to 1998: The first five titles with Steaua and another two with Galatasaray SK in Turkey. He then joined Real Betis of Spain, and played four and a half season there before joining Fussballclub Zürich in the Swiss Super League.

SuperLiga (rugby)

SuperLiga, officially known as the CEC Bank SuperLiga, is Romania's top level and professional men's rugby union competition. SuperLiga is run by Federația Română de Rugby and it is contested by 8 teams at the start of 2018-2019 season, with the addition of the 2017-2018 champions and runners-up of the second tier Divizia Nationala de Seniori, ACS Tomitanii Constanța and SCM Gloria Buzau respectively. It was set up in 1914, a only two team competition by then, to expand and grow in the 1920s and 1930s, after Stadiul Român and seventeen more (other) teams were founded in Bucharest-only ever since. The championship took place on an annual basis, with some gap years caused by the two World Wars mostly.

The 2017–18 CS Universitatea Craiova season is the 66th season in the football club's history and 4th consecutive and 51st overall season in the top flight of Romanian football, the Liga I, having been promoted from the Liga II in 2014. Universitatea Craiova also are participating in this season's edition of the domestic cup Cupa României, and the UEFA Europa League. This is the 1st season for Universitatea in the rebuilt Ion Oblemenco stadium, located in Craiova, Romania. The season covers a period from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018.
