Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit (Forbidden Broadway: SVU for short) is the ninth incarnation of Gerard Alessandrini's musical revue which ran Off-Broadway from 2004 to 2007.
Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit opened on December 16, 2004 at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre, [1] closed on May 29, 2005 and reopened at the 47th Street Theatre on June 24, 2005, [2] finally closing on April 15, 2007.
The "Forbidden Broadway" series entered its twenty-fifth year running off-Broadway. The show was conceived, created and written by Alessandrini and is co-directed by Alessandrini and Phillip George. [1] George also contributes some of the parody ideas and sketches.
The revue continues the series' tradition of spoofing contemporary Broadway shows and personalities, including the shows Thoroughly Modern Millie , Hairspray , Wicked , Avenue Q , Cabaret , Fiddler on the Roof , La Cage aux Folles , and Bombay Dreams , and personalities Christina Applegate, Robert Goulet, Cherry Jones, and Kathleen Turner. This cast is featured on the show's accompanying album of the same title, the eighth volume in the series. The album also features a guest appearance by Christine Pedi.

From 2012 to 2015, he starred as Elder Price in The Book of Mormon; he received a Laurence Olivier Award for originating the role in the West End version of the musical and has played the role in the US National Tour and on Broadway. In 2017, he received a Tony Award for his performance as Cornelius Hackl in Broadway's Hello, Dolly!.
Forbidden Broadway is an Off-Broadway revue parodying musical theatre, particularly Broadway musicals. It was conceived, written and directed by Gerard Alessandrini and has been updated many times to parody new musicals and productions. Typically, the revue is performed by a cast of four with a piano. Versions of the show have been seen in more than 200 cities in the U.S., as well as London, Tokyo and elsewhere. In 2024, after four decades of performances off-Broadway, a Broadway version of the revue is planned to be staged for the first time.
