Foreign Service Academy is a training academy for foreign service officers of the Bangladesh Civil Service under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. [1] [2]
In the 1980s, the foreign service officers were trained at the Foreign Affairs Training Institute which was later merged with the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy. Foreign Service Academy was established in 1996 by the government of Bangladesh to train foreign service officers after a need for specialized training was recognized. [3] The academy started working from 1 January 1997. [4] On 19 April 2019, the Academy opened a Genocide corner in memory of the Bangladesh genocide during the Bangladesh Liberation war. [5]
The academy was decided to be located at a historic colonial era mansion known as the President's House. In the 1960s, Queen Elizabeth II stayed at the mansion. After the independence of Bangladesh, the mansion was called the Ganabhaban ("People's House") and made the office of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Mujib but after the building of a new Ganabhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar it was converted to a state guest house named Sugandha. In 1996, it became the official headquarters of the Foreign Service Academy. [3] [4]
Until October 2015, the academy was led by a principal, after that by a rector. [6]
The Bangladesh Armed Forces are the military forces of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. They consist of the three uniformed military services: the Bangladesh Army, the Bangladesh Navy, and the Bangladesh Air Force. The Armed Forces are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence of the Government of Bangladesh, and are directly administered by the Armed Forces Division of the Prime Minister's Office. The President of Bangladesh serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh has the third-largest defence budget in South Asia. The Bangladeshi military is the 37th strongest in the world and the third most powerful military force in South Asia. Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Coast Guard are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs during peacetime, but during wartime, they fall under the command of the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Navy, respectively.
The Bangla Academy is the official regulatory body of the Bengali language in Bangladesh. It is an autonomous institution funded by the Government of Bangladesh that fosters the Bengali language, literature and culture, works to develop and implement national language policy and conducts original research in Bengali. Established in 1955, it is located in the Burdwan House in Shahbagh, Dhaka, within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair.
Supreme Court of Bangladesh is the highest court of law in Bangladesh. It is composed of the High Court Division and the Appellate Division, and was created by Part VI Chapter I of the Constitution of Bangladesh adopted in 1972. This is also the office of the Chief Justice, Appellate Division Justices, and High Court Division Justices of Bangladesh. As of August 2024, there are 6 Justices in Appellate Division and 78 Justices in High Court Division.
Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) is the military training institute for the officer cadets of Bangladesh Army. It is located in Bhatiary, near the Chittagong Hill Tracts, in the Chittagong District of south-east Bangladesh about 13 kilometers north of Chittagong. The academy is situated on the slopes of the Sitakunda hill ranges and the shore of the Bay of Bengal.
Bangladesh and Pakistan are both South Asian Muslim-majority countries. Following the end of British rule in India, the two countries formed a single state for 24 years. The Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 resulted in the secession of East Pakistan as the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Pakistan recognized Bangladesh in 1974. Today, bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan are considered to be cordial.
The National Security Intelligence, commonly known as the NSI, is the principal civilian intelligence agency of Bangladesh. The NSI's headquarters is in Segunbagicha, Dhaka. The NSI is the leading body of the Government of Bangladesh in the field of internal security, counter terrorism, counter intelligence and foreign intelligence. NSI is the largest among the intelligence agencies in Bangladesh, the others being the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), SB, CID, PBI and intelligence directorates of armed and paramilitary forces. The agency stands under the direct authority of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA) is the oldest police training institute of Bangladesh Police. It is the alma mater of police training in Bangladesh. It is located 20 miles from Rajshahi City.
The Provisional Government of Bangladesh, popularly known as the Mujibnagar Government ; also known as the Bangladeshi government-in-exile, was the first and founding government of Bangladesh that was established following the proclamation of independence of East Pakistan as Bangladesh on 10 April 1971. Headed by prime minister Tajuddin Ahmad, it was the supreme leadership of the Bangladeshi liberation movement, comprising a cabinet, a diplomatic corps, an assembly, an armed force, and a radio service. It operated as a government-in-exile from Kolkata.
Syed Abul Hossain was a Bangladeshi businessman and politician. He was the managing director and chairman of SAHCO International Ltd. He served as a member of the Bangladesh Parliament for four terms during 1991–1995 and 1996–2014 representing the Madaripur-3 constituency. He served as the minister of information and communication technology (2011–2012), minister of communications (2009–2011) and state minister of local government, rural development and co-operatives (1996–1997).
The Ganabhaban located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, north of the National Parliament House, served as the official residence of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh until the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the aftermath of the Student–People's uprising in July 2024, the residence is undergoing transformation into a museum, to be named the July Uprising Memorial Museum.
Hasan Mahmud is a politician from Bangladesh Awami League. He is a former minister of foreign affairs for the fifth Hasina ministry, and a former member of parliament from Chittagong-7. In 2019, he was appointed as the minister of information and broadcasting for the fourth Hasina ministry. Mahmud is accused as one of the perpetrators of the July massacre. He is currently wanted by Bangladesh Police for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Student–People's uprising of 2024.
Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) is a training institute for the public sector. It was founded in 1984, and is situated in Savar, Dhaka District. The premises has teaching facilities, quarters for the officers, a mosque, and a lake. Sayeed Mahbub Khan is the rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre.
The first Hasina ministry was the government of Bangladesh during the 7th legislative session of the Jatiya Sangsad following the 1996 general election; the 20-minister cabinet was formed on 23 June 1996 and dissolved on 15 July 2001.
The Second Hasina ministry was the Government of Bangladesh during the 9th legislative session of the Jatiya Sangsad following the 2008 general election, and serving from 6 January 2009 until 24 January 2014.

Md. Touhid Hossain is a former foreign secretary of Bangladesh and the current Adviser for Foreign Affairs to the Interim government of Bangladesh. He also served as a High commissioner of Bangladesh to South Africa.
Tureen Afroz is a Bangladeshi lawyer and former senior prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal. She was removed from the tribunal after allegedly meeting accused war criminal Mohammad Wahidul Haque. She prosecuted cases against Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, Ghulam Azam, Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, Motiur Rahman Nizami, and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
