Fortuna (Korfbalvereniging Fortuna) is a Dutch korfball club located in Delft, Netherlands. [2] The club was founded on 3 February 1957 [3] and they play their home games in the Fortuna-Hal. The team plays in white/red vertically striped shirts and black shorts / skirts.

History

General history

Fortuna was founded on 3 February 1957 by Chris Bezuyen, Ria Boer, Jan Bonthuis, Ria Rongen, Arie Rongen en Ineke Rosier. The club expanded rapidly, mainly by korfbal played at elementary schools. By that time, Fortuna was already the fourth korfball club in Delft. However Fortuna is the youngest club of the city, it always had the highest ambitions.

Fortuna rapidly turned out to be a club playing on the highest national levels and for the last 30 years it has acted on the Hoofdklasse and Korfbal League, with the exception of 1 season.

Fortuna also won the Dutch national championships a few times; 4 times indoors and 2 times outdoors.

Over de last years, the full name of the club changed due to new partnerships with their main sponsor. In 2004 the name became Fortuna/Tempus. In 2009 the name changed to Fortuna/MHIR. In 2014 the name changed to Fortuna/MyCollections and the last name change came in 2015 when it changed into Fortuna/Delta Logistiek.

Fortuna own its own outdoor fields and indoor hall.

FKS

Every year Fortuna hosts its own FKS tournament. This 2 days annual tournament is held in preparation of the upcoming Korfbal League season. Four Korfbal League teams compete for the FKS title.

The current FKS champion is PKC/SWK Groep.

Fortuna frequently participates in tournaments. By doing this, the club won several awards. Here a short overview

Haagse Korfbaldagen (12 time champion)

This tournament held in The Hague has been around since 1985 and features clubs from The Hague area. This tournament is held before the Korfbal League season starts. Fortuna won this tournament in 1990, 1994, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 en 2011. However, after 2011 Fortuna decided no longer to participate in this tournament any more, due to the busy preparation schedule in September/October.

Korfbal Challenge (3 time champion)

The Korfbal Challenge is an international tournament which is being held in Rotterdam between Christmas and New Years Day. Only 2 Korfbal League clubs are granted access to this tournament; only the 2 finalists of the Korfbal League Finals from that year. Besides that, this tournament features teams from other countries, such as Belgium, Taiwan, Spain or Czech Republic.

The Korfbal Challenge is besides being a high class tournament also a moment where the KNKV tries out possible new rules of the game. Some experiments are being rejected quickly, but also some experiments are turned into new international rules. This way, the game tries to keep up and lift dynamics or speed of the game.

Fortuna has won this tournament 3 times, in 2003, 2004 and 2012.

The Unió Korfbalera Sant Adrià de Besòs (UKSA) is the korfbal team of Sant Adrià de Besòs city. Nowadays, it is a member of the Catalan League of Korfbal, and the club's president is Pilar Arnalda Piñol. The UKSA is one of the oldest clubs of Catalonia, being a member of the Catalan Federation of Korfbal. The T-shirt colour is purple and the trousers and the skirt are black.

The Korfball European Cup was the main annual korfball competition for clubs in Europe. The tournament was won exclusively by clubs from the Netherlands and Belgium, and Mitcham (England) and Adler Rauxel (Germany) were the only clubs outside Netherlands and Belgium to reach the final. In January 2022, the IKF announced that the IKF Europa Cup and IKF Europa Shield would be replaced by the IKF Europe Korfball Champions League for the 2022-23 Season.

Trojans is a korfball club based in Croydon, England. The club was established in 1972 and is part of the England Korfball Association. They are 11 time National League Champions, 4 time EKA Cup Champions and have also won the Europa Shield in 2007 in Vilanova i la Geltrú and a bronze medal at the Europa Cup 2012 in Warsaw, bronze medal at the Europa Cup 2017 in Sassenheim and bronze medal at the Europa Cup in 2019 in Kortrijk.

The Korfbal League is the highest echelon of korfball in the Netherlands. The league was founded in 2005 as the new highest level in Dutch korfball. Before that the top level was split in two divisions. Since the start of the competition the format has been the same. The winner of the Korfbal League qualifies for the Korfball Champions League while the number 10 relegated to the Korfbal League 2. The number 9 will compete with the loser of the Korfbal League 2 final in a play-off for a position in the Korfbal League.

The Royal Dutch Korfball Association is the governing body of korfball in the Netherlands. It organises the main Dutch korfball leagues ,the more recreative leagues, and the Dutch national team.

PKC is a Dutch korfball club located in Papendrecht, Netherlands. The club was founded on 2 February 1935 and they play their home games in the PKC-Hal. The team plays in white shirts and green shorts / skirts. The club has around 1000 members, which makes it the biggest korfball club in the world.

AKC Blauw-Wit is a Dutch korfball club located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The club was founded on 6 December 1916 under the name of GOKC and they play their home games in the Blauw-Wit Hal. The team plays in white/blue horizontally striped shirts and black shorts / skirts.

Koog Zaandijk or in common language KZ is a Dutch korfball club located in Koog aan de Zaan, Netherlands. The club was founded on 20 May 1910 as TAVENU, but was already in some month changed to Koog Zaandijk. They play their home games in sports accommodation De Sprong. Wim Scholtmeijer (1982) is a former Dutch Korfball player and former Dutch National Team Coach. Since 2020 has been the headcoach of PKC. As a player Scholtmeijer won four Dutch national championships and two European championships. As the Dutch national team headcoach he won six gold medals.

Sportvereniging Oranje Wit is a sports club from Dordrecht, Netherlands. It has sections for pool, tennis and association football. Its first male squad plays in the Saturday Eerste klasse since 2014. Home ground is Sportcomplex Stadpolders.

The 2024–25 Korfbal League season will be the 20th edition of the Korfbal League since its establishment in 2005. PKC are the defending champions. At the end of the previous season Groen Geel relegated directly to Korfbal League 2.
