Fran Amos (born January 12,1939) is an American politician and businesswoman who served as a member of the Michigan State House of Representatives,representing the 43rd District from 2003 to 2009. [1]
Amos was born in Oakland County,Michigan. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Oakland University in 1980. [2]
Prior to her service in the House of Representatives,she was an Oakland County,Michigan Commissioner for four terms. During her service for Oakland County,she was widely credited with the privatization of mental health services. Amos retired as an executive from Bell System. [3]
During her tenure,Amos was one of four Republican women serving in the Michigan Legislature and the only female Republican serving on the House Appropriations Committee. Amos represented the 43rd District from 2003 to 2009. [4]
In 2010,Amos unsuccessfully ran for the Michigan Senate in District 26, [5] which covers the townships of Waterford,Springfield,Groveland and Brandon in Oakland County. In Genesee County it covers the townships of Grand Blanc,Atlas,Davison,Forest,Mt Morris,Thetford,Richfield and Vienna as well as the cities of Burton,Clio,Davison and Mt Morris and the villages of Goodrich and Otisville.
Amos and her husband,Ed,have two children.

Oakland County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a principal county of the Detroit metropolitan area,containing the bulk of Detroit's northern suburbs. Its seat of government is Pontiac,and its largest city is Troy. As of the 2020 Census,its population was 1,274,395,making it the second-most populous county in Michigan,and the most populous county in the United States without a city of 100,000 residents. Founded in 1819 and organized the following year,Oakland County is composed of 62 cities,villages,and townships. In 2010,Oakland County was among the ten wealthiest counties in the United States to have over one million residents. It is also home to Oakland University,a large public institution that straddles the border between the cities of Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills.
Macomb County is a county on the eastern shore of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area,bordering Detroit to the north and containing many of its northern suburbs. Its seat of government is Mt. Clemens,and its largest community is Warren. As of the 2020 census,the county had a population of 881,217,making it the third-most populous county in the state,behind neighboring Wayne and Oakland. Macomb County contains 27 cities,townships and villages,including three of the ten most-populous municipalities in Michigan. Most of this population is concentrated south of Hall Road (M-59),one of the county's main thoroughfares.

Michigan's 8th congressional district is a United States congressional district in Central Michigan. The district was first created in 1873,after redistricting following the 1870 census. From 2003 to 2013,it consisted of all of Clinton,Ingham,and Livingston counties,and included the southern portion of Shiawassee and the northern portion of Oakland counties. From 2013 to 2023,the district no longer covered Clinton or Shiawassee counties and instead covered more of Oakland County,including Rochester. In 2023,the district was redrawn to be centered on the city of Flint and the "Tri-Cities" metropolitan area around Saginaw,Midland,Bay City. The district includes all of Saginaw and Bay counties,almost all of Genesee County,and portions of Midland and Tuscola counties.
