Frances Sarah Adcock (born 9 August 1984) is a British-born Australian former competition swimmer who specialized in backstroke events. [1]

Adcock was born in Nottingham, England. She moved to Adelaide, South Australia in her teenage years, where she worked as a resident athlete and a varsity player for the Western Sharks and Norwood Swimming Club. [2]

Adcock is a three-time short-course Australian champion in the 200m backstroke breaking the Australian record for the event at the 2008 World SC Championship trials. Adcock qualified for the women's 200-metre backstroke at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by attaining both her personal record and an A-standard entry time of 2:13.48 from the Telstra Olympic Swimming Trials in Sydney. [3] [4] In the morning's preliminary heats, Adcock secured a fifteenth overall spot for the next round, with a time of 2:14.85. On the evening session, however, Adcock fell short in her bid for the final, as she finished the semifinal run, with the slowest time of 2:15.69, more than two seconds behind her teammate Melissa Morgan. [5]

Adcock retired from swimming to pursue her career as a sports and news journalist for ABC Wide Bay in Queensland. [6]

Adcock contributes to national ABC programs 'The World Today' and 'AM'.

She has two degrees in Journalism and International Studies.

Fratesi set a Canadian record of 2:11.16 in the 200-metre backstroke at the 2001 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, placing 4th in the world. This national record would last nearly a decade, one of the oldest in the country. Fratesi grew up in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario swimming for the Sault Ste Marie Aquatics club until age 15, then relocated to the national swim center in Waterloo Ontario. She saw an immediate drop in her times here under the direction of Bud McAllister, an American born coach. Fratesi went on to win 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze at the Junior Olympics in Sydney, Australia and won 10 national senior titles in her career.

Melissa Morgan is an Australian swimmer who specialized in backstroke events.

Elizabeth Warden is a Canadian former competitive swimmer who specialized in backstroke and individual medley events. She won a silver medal in the 400-metre individual medley at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a time of 4:47.69. Warden was also a member of the swimming team, and a graduate of the University of Toronto.

Shim Min-ji is a South Korean former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and backstroke events. She is a two-time Olympian and a three-time relay medalist at the Asian Games (2002).

Kolbrún Ýr Kristjánsdóttir is a retired Icelandic swimmer, who specialized in backstroke and butterfly events. She is a two-time Olympian, and former Icelandic record holder in the same strokes.

Chonlathorn Vorathamrong is a Thai former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. She is a two-time Olympian and a six-time medalist at the Southeast Asian Games.

Şadan Derya Erke is a Turkish former swimmer, who specialized in backstroke events. She is a two-time Olympian and a member of Istanbul Swimming Club. She previously held Turkish records in the 50, 100, and 200 m backstroke, until they were all broken by Hazal Sarikaya in 2012. Erke is also a graduate of Marmara University in Istanbul.

Karen Barbara Lee is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympics and European championships. She specialized in backstroke events. She finished sixth in the 200-metre backstroke (2.10.27) at the 2002 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Riesa, Germany. She was also a member of Team GB starting in 1998, and a varsity swimmer for the Loughborough University team, under head coach Ben Titley.

Gretchen Gotay Cordero is a Puerto Rican former swimmer, who specialized in freestyle and backstroke events. She won a total of four medals in both freestyle and medley relays at the Central American and Caribbean Games. She is a member of Athens Bulldogs Swim Club under her personal coach Harvey Humphries, and a graduate with a master's degree in sports management at the University of Georgia in Athens.

Rhyan Elizabeth White is an American swimmer. She won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics for her contribution in the prelims of the event and placed fourth in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 200-meter backstroke. At the 2020 Olympics, White also became the first Utah-born swimmer to compete in an Olympic Games. At the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, she was the only swimmer representing the United States to win a medal. She won her first world title in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2021 World Short Course Championships.

Mollie Grace O'Callaghan is an Australian swimmer and the reigning Olympic champion in the 200 m freestyle. She was the 2023 world champion in the women's 100m and 200m freestyle individual events, and part of the world champion 4 × 100 m and 4 × 200 m Australian women's relay teams together with 4 × 100 m mixed relay team. She previously held the world record in the women's individual 200m freestyle.
