A pioneer in the field of control theory,he helped shape modern control theory and spearheaded the field of multivariable control system design and the field of robust control. Athans was a member of the technical staff at Lincoln Laboratory from 1961 to 1964,and a Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science faculty member from 1964 to 1998. Upon retirement,Athans moved to Lisbon,Portugal,where he was an Invited Research Professor in the Institute for Systems and Robotics,Instituto Superior Técnico where he received a honoris causa doctorate from the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa in 2011.
Manfred Morari is a world-leading control theorist who has made pioneering contributions to the theory and applications of Model Predictive Control,Internal Model Control (IMC) and Hybrid Systems. His book on Robust Process Control is considered to be definitive text on the subject. He is currently Peter and Susanne Armstrong Faculty Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1977. Dr. Morari held positions at the University of Wisconsin,Madison (1977–1983),the California Institute of Technology (1983-1991),and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich ETH Zurich. He is considered a pioneer in field of Model Predictive Control,Control of Hybrid Systems,Internal Model Control (IMC),and robust control.
Samir Mitragotri is an Indian American professor at Harvard University,an inventor,an entrepreneur,and a researcher in the fields of drug delivery and biomaterials. He is currently the Hiller Professor of Bioengineering and Hansjörg Wyss Professor of Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering. Prior to 2017,he was the Duncan and Suzanne Mellichamp Chair Professor at University of California,Santa Barbara.
Bruce Eisenstein is an engineering educator serving as the Arthur J. Rowland Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He was formerly Interim Dean and Vice Dean of the College of Engineering at Drexel University. He has published nearly 50 papers in the areas of digital signal processing,pattern recognition,deconvolution,along with biomedical engineering. He also served as president of the IEEE in 2000.
Allen Robert Tannenbaum was an American applied mathematician who finished his career as a Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics &Statistics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Cristina H. Amon is a mechanical engineer,academic administrator and was the 13th dean of the University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. She was the Faculty's first female dean. Prior to her appointment at the University of Toronto in 2006,she was the Raymond J. Lane Distinguished Professor and director of the Institute for Complex Engineered Systems at Carnegie Mellon University.
Babatunde Ayodeji Ogunnaike was an American chemical engineer of Nigerian descent and the William L. Friend Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware (UD). He was the former dean of UD's college of engineering. He died on February 20,2022. He had waged a long battle with cancer.
