Francis J. Kennard (March 15, 1865 - April 29, 1944 [1] ) was a prolific architect of many prominent buildings in Tampa, Florida. The public buildings he designed are often in the Neoclassical style. His work includes Hillsborough High School, [2] St. Andrews Episcopal Church, [3] and the Belleview-Biltmore Hotel. [4] Kennard employed the French Renaissance Revival style in his design for el Centro Español de Tampa as well as influences from Moorish Revival and Spanish Mediterranean Revival.[ citation needed ]
Kennard's expansion plan for the Boca Grande Hotel became the Gasparilla Inn. [5] At the opening, a contact he made later contracted for Kennard to design for the Colonial Theatre (Bethlehem, New Hampshire), called Art Deco although it predates that style's designated period.
Kennard's son Philip was born in Orlando on December 29, 1890 and eventually joined his father's firm as Francis J. Kennard and Son. The company designed West Coast Title Company headquarters in 1926 (now the Municipal Services Building). The St. Petersburg Times called them "pioneer architects of the west coast of Florida."
Philip Kennard established an independent practice in downtown St. Petersburg in 1938 at 302 Central Avenue. He designed the Carleve Hotel, Nautical Apartments and the Royal Theater (St. Petersburg) during the 1930s and 1940s. By the mid-1950s he was working on several Pinellas County schools including Northeast High School, Boca Ciega High School, 74th Street Elementary School and 16th Street Junior High School. Philip Kennard died in St. Petersburg on September 18, 1956 and is buried at the Royal Palm Cemetery. [6] [7]

The Old Pinellas County Courthouse is a historic county courthouse in Clearwater, Florida, USA. It was designed by Francis J. Kennard and constructed in 1918. It replaced a hastily constructed structure created to help establish Clearwater as the county seat. It is located at 315 Court Street. On June 25, 1992, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
El Centro Español de Tampa is a historic building in the Ybor City neighborhood of Tampa, in the U.S. state of Florida. Built as an ethnic and cultural clubhouse in 1912, the red brick structure situated at 1526–1536 East 7th Avenue is today part of a shopping and entertainment complex. It remains one of the few surviving structures specific to Spanish immigration to the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a legacy which garnered the Centro Español building recognition as a U.S. National Historic Landmark (NHL) on June 3, 1988. El Centro Español de Tampa is one of two individual structures within Hillsborough County to be so designated.

The Belleview-Biltmore Resort and Spa was a historic resort hotel located at 25 Belleview Boulevard in the town of Belleair, Florida, United States. The 350,000 square feet (33,000 m2) hotel structure was the last remaining grand historic hotel of its period in Florida that existed as a resort, and the only Henry Plant hotel still in operation when it closed in 2009. The building was noted for its architectural features, with its green sloped roof and white wood-sided exterior, and handcrafted woodwork and Tiffany glass inside. Constructed of native Florida heart pine wood, it was the second-largest occupied wooden structure in the United States after 1938; only the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego was larger.
The Floridan Palace Hotel, formerly known as the Hotel Floridan or Floridan Hotel, is a historic hotel in Tampa, Florida, United States. It is located at 905 North Florida Avenue in the north end of the downtown core. It was designed by prominent Tampa architects G.A. Miller and Francis J. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church is an active Episcopal parish and historic church building in Tampa, Florida, United States. The structure is located downtown at 505 North Marion Street, however, the parish offices are located at 509 East Twiggs Street. On April 15, 2009, the church building was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Francis J. Kennard and Michael J. Miller are credited as the building's architects.
M. Leo Elliott was an architect known for his work in Tampa, Temple Terrace and Sarasota, Florida. His designs include the public buildings and first eight houses in the City of Temple Terrace, Florida (1921), Ybor City's Centro Asturiano de Tampa, Old Tampa City Hall, Osprey School, two buildings that were part of Florida College and the original Temple Terrace Estates, Masonic Temple No. 25 (1928), the original 1926 Sarasota High School and Historic Spanish Point.
