Francis Lovehall is a Jamaican actor based in London.

Early life

Lovehall was born and raised in Jamaica. [1] He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2019. [2]

Career

In 2020 Lovehall could be seen playing Reggie alongside Micheal Ward in Steve McQueen's Lovers Rock , part of his Small Axe anthology series. [3] [4]

In 2022 Lovehall appeared in Red Pitch at the Bush Theatre from Tyrell Williams. [5] [6] In October 2022, Lovehall was nominated for his performance in the Emerging Talent category at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his performance in Red Pitch. [7]

In June 2023, Lovehall plays Laurent in musical television series Champion by Candice Carty-Williams, for BBC One. [8] [9]

In March 2023, he was cast in Steven Knight 1880s-set drama television series A Thousand Blows . [10] [11]

In December 2023, he could be seen in the Baby Keem film The Melodic Blue. [12]

Small Axe is a British anthology film series, created and directed by Steve McQueen. The anthology consists of five films that tell distinct stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from the 1960s to the 1980s. Two episodes of the series were selected into the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. The series premiered on 15 November 2020 on BBC One in the United Kingdom and on 20 November 2020 on Amazon Prime Video in the United States. The title references a proverb – "Small axe fall big tree" or "If you are the big tree, we are the small axe" – that was popularised by Bob Marley in his 1973 song "Small Axe".

Lovers Rock is a 2020 romance film directed by Steve McQueen and co-written by McQueen and Courttia Newland. It stars Micheal Ward and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn. The film was released as part of the anthology series Small Axe on BBC One on 22 November 2020 and Amazon Prime Video on 27 November 2020. It premiered as an opening film at the 58th New York Film Festival on 24 September 2020.

Queenie is a new adult novel written by British author Candice Carty-Williams and published by Trapeze, an imprint of Orion, in 2019. The novel is about the life and loves of Queenie Jenkins, a vibrant, troubled 25-year-old British-Jamaican woman who is not having a very good year. In 2023, Channel 4 announced that Queenie had been made into a television drama, created and executive produced by Carty-Williams which aired in June 2024.

The Melodic Blue is the debut studio album by American rapper and record producer Baby Keem. It was released on September 10, 2021, by PGLang and Columbia Records, with Keem serving as the executive producer. The standard version of the album featured guest appearances by rappers Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and Don Toliver. An updated version, released on September 22, features an additional guest appearance from singer Brent Faiyaz. The deluxe edition of The Melodic Blue, released on October 28, 2022, contained additional guest appearances from PinkPantheress and Lil Uzi Vert.

Champion is a British musical drama television series created and written by Candice Carty-Williams for BBC One which aired for one series from 1 July to 19 August 2023. It stars Déja J Bowens, Malcolm Kamulete, Ray BLK, Nadine Marshall, Ray Fearon, Jo Martin and Karl Collins. Set in South London, it focuses on the musical rivalry between two up-and-coming musicians, siblings Bosco and Vita Champion, and the ramifications and fallout of which could drive their family apart in their quest for musical stardom.

Queenie is a British television series, based on the novel of the same name by Candice Carty-Williams. The series is developed by Further South Productions in association with Lionsgate Television for Channel 4.
