Louis-Antoine,Comte de Bougainville was a French military officer,explorer and nobleman. A contemporary of the British explorer James Cook,he served in the Seven Years' War and the American Revolutionary War. Bougainville later gained fame for his expeditions,including a circumnavigation of the globe in a scientific expedition in 1763,the first recorded settlement on the Falkland Islands,and voyages into the Pacific Ocean. Bougainville Island of Papua New Guinea as well as the flowering plant Bougainvillea are named in his honour.

BartoloméFélix Morales y Ramírez was a lieutenant colonel of the Spanish infantry who served as lieutenant governor in Holguín,Cuba,and briefly as an interim governor of East Florida. As commandant of the third battalion of Cuba,he was appointed to posts in the Cuban cities of Bayamo,Cobre and Holguín,and commanded the Spanish garrison in St. Augustine,Florida.

Vicente Sebastian Pintado y Brito was a Spanish cartographer,engineer,military officer and land surveyor of Spanish Louisiana and Spanish West Florida. He is known for conducting surveys of lands for settlers who had requested grants in Louisiana and Florida,as well as the so-called "Pintado plan",a street map of Pensacola drawn in 1812 which included the position and size of the solares designated for construction of the city's church and other public buildings. He lived for more than 35 years in America and left a large corpus of work consisting of maps,plats,letters and documents vital to an understanding of the complicated sale of lands in Florida and Louisiana during the period. In 1974,the Library of Congress in Washington,D.C. obtained a donation of the Pintado Collection,a collection of about 1,500 documents now stored in its Division of Manuscripts.
Mariano Valera was a Novohispanic military man who served as a captain in Guajoquilla,Coahuila,lieutenant governor of Manuel Maria de Salcedo in Texas,chief of the Texas government department,and commander of the military garrisons that defended the province's presidios. He also served,briefly,as interim governor of Texas in 1815,replacing Cristóbal Domínguez,as did his predecessor Benito Armiñán,although he only governed for a week or one year.
Gother Mann was an English army officer and military engineer in the Royal Engineers. He commanded a body of militia on Dominica when the island was captured by the French in September 1778,and his small garrison,outnumbered,surrendered on terms.
