Frank M. Pelly (born August 3,1933) is an American politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from the 18th Legislative District from 1982 to 1991. [1]
Born on August 3,1933,in New Brunswick,New Jersey,and raised there,Pelly graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1951. [2] Pelly graduated in 1956 from the University of Georgia in 1956 with a degree in pharmacy,and operated a pharmacy in New Brunswick. [3] A resident of North Brunswick,New Jersey,Pelly served as a board of education trustee on the North Brunswick Township Public Schools,on the township council and as a member of the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. In May 1991,Pelly was named by Governor James Florio to serve as executive director of the New Jersey Lottery,after Pelly announced that he would not be seeking re-election;he succeeded acting lottery head Russell R. Hart,who took over when Barbara Marrow-Mooring stepped down. [5] As head of the lottery,Pelly had a hotline number for compulsive gamblers printed on all lottery tickets. [4] In May 1994,Governor Christine Todd Whitman nominated Virginia E. Haines to succeed Pelly as head of the New Jersey Lottery. [6]

Middlesex College,formerly Middlesex County College,is a public community college with its main campus in Edison,New Jersey. It was founded by the Middlesex County Board of Elected Freeholders in 1964 and serves the needs of Middlesex County as well as surrounding communities. The college also maintains two urban center campuses,one located in the Civic Square government and theatre district of New Brunswick and one in the city center of Perth Amboy. The current president of Middlesex College is Mark McCormick,who succeeded Dr. Joann LaPerla-Morales.

The 1981 New Jersey State Senate elections were held on November 3. The New Jersey legislature reapportioned its state legislative districts in advance of the 1981 election. The new districts resulted in many senators running for re-election in newly re-numbered districts. The election coincided with a tightly contested gubernatorial election between Thomas Kean and James Florio. Republicans gained five seats,narrowing the Democratic majority to 22-18.

The results were a landslide victory for the Republican Party amidst a tax revolt by New Jersey voters. Democrats picked up only one seat,that of Senator Lee B. Laskin.
