Francis Joseph (Frank) Savage CMG LVO OBE (born 1943) [1] is a British diplomat, who was Governor of Montserrat from 1993 to 1997. His tenure included the early stages of the volcanic eruption of the Soufriere Hills Volcano, from 1995 to 1997. [2] [3]

Career

Savage was appointed an officer of Her Majesty's diplomatic service in November 1977. [4] His career included a term as first secretary, in the British high commission in Lagos, Nigeria, [5] followed by appointments as Governor of Montserrat (1993–1997) and the British Virgin Islands (1997–2002).

Savage worked for some years as an adviser on disaster management to the overseas territories department of the British government, [6] and retired from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2013. [7] He was appointed director of the Commonwealth Disaster Management Agency (CDMA) in 2021. [8]

Awards

Savage was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) in November 1986. [9] He was awarded an OBE in December 1988, [5] and was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in June 1996. [10]

Air Chief Marshal Stuart William Peach, Baron Peach, is a British retired senior Royal Air Force officer. After training as a navigator, Peach commanded IX (Bomber) Squadron and then became Deputy Station Commander RAF Bruggen. He was deployed as NATO Air Commander (Forward) in Kosovo in 2000. He went on to be Chief of Defence Intelligence in 2006, Chief of Joint Operations in 2009 and the first Commander of Joint Forces Command in December 2011 before being appointed Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in May 2013. Peach succeeded General Sir Nick Houghton as Chief of the Defence Staff on 14 July 2016. He succeeded General Petr Pavel as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 29 June 2018, serving as such until his retirement from NATO in June 2021.

The official secretary to the governor-general of Australia and staff provide support to the governor-general of Australia to enable the governor-general to carry out their constitutional, statutory, ceremonial and public duties. Until 1903, the governor-general’s private secretary provided the support to the governor-general, when the official secretary position was established. The position was abolished in 1928 after the Parliament moved from Melbourne to Canberra, but was recreated in 1931. The position was established by statute in its current form in 1984.
