Friko began in 2019 as a project consisting of Niko Kapetan, Luke Stamos and Bailey Minzenberger. [1] All three members were graduates of Evanston Township High School. [2] After releasing their first EP in 2020, the trio released their second EP Whenever Forever in 2022. [3] In August 2023, Friko signed with the label ATO Records and announced they were to be just a duo with Kapetan and Minzenberger. [4]
In November 2023, the duo announced plans to release their debut album. [5] The album, Where We've Been, Where We Go from Here , was released on February 16, 2024. [6] [7] The band cited MewithoutYou, Mitski, and The Beach Boys as inspiration for the album. [8] Upon release of the album, the song "Get Numb To It!" was named "Today's Top Tune" by KCRW and one of "9 New Albums You Should Listen to Now" by Pitchfork. [9] [10] The album received positive reviews. [11]
Elizabeth Clark Phair is an American rock singer-songwriter and musician. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Phair was raised primarily in the Chicago area. After graduating from Oberlin College in 1990, she attempted to start a musical career in San Francisco, but returned to her home in Chicago, where she began self-releasing audio cassettes under the name Girly-Sound. The tapes led to a recording contract with the independent record label Matador Records.
Azure Ray is an American dream pop duo, consisting of musicians Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor. Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 2001, they later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and became part of the Saddle Creek Records music scene, which also included Bright Eyes, The Faint, and Cursive. Azure Ray's music has often been featured in film and television, including Six Feet Under, Grey's Anatomy, and The Devil Wears Prada. They have released five albums and several EPs.

Duster is an American indie rock band, formed in San Jose, California in 1996. For most of its history, the group consisted of multi-instrumentalists Clay Parton and Canaan Dove Amber alongside drummer Jason Albertini before Albertini left the band in 2022.
Orenda Fink is an American singer, musician, and writer. Perhaps best known as half of the duo Azure Ray, Fink is also a member of Art in Manila, O+S, Closeness, and High Up, and has played with or appeared as a guest on records by Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst, Moby, The Faint, Pete Yorn, and others. She is married to Todd Fink of The Faint.
Teen Dream is the third studio album by American dream pop duo Beach House. It was released on January 26, 2010 as the band's debut album on the record label Sub Pop. Internationally, the album was released by Bella Union in Europe, Mistletone Records in Australia, and Arts & Crafts in Mexico. The album was produced by the band and Chris Coady. The duo began recording the album after going on tour in support of their second studio album Devotion (2008), with sessions taking place at Dreamland Studios in Hurley, New York and DNA in New York City.
The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die is an American rock band formed in Willimantic, Connecticut, in 2009. Following the release of several EPs and splits featuring original lead singer Thomas Diaz, they released their debut LP Whenever, If Ever in 2013 to generally positive reviews. Undergoing a series of roster changes, they proceeded to release a 2014 collaboration with spoken word artist Christopher Zizzamia titled Between Bodies, as well as several full-length records, including Harmlessness in 2015, Always Foreign in 2017, and 2021's Illusory Walls.
Caroline Elizabeth Polachek is an American singer, producer, and songwriter. Raised in Connecticut, Polachek cofounded the indie pop band Chairlift while studying at the University of Colorado. The duo emerged from the late-2000s Brooklyn music scene with the sleeper hit "Bruises". In 2014, she released her first solo project, Arcadia, as Ramona Lisa. Under CEP, she released Drawing the Target Around the Arrow in 2017.
Mitsuki Miyawaki, known professionally as Mitski, is an American singer and songwriter. She self-released her first two albums, Lush (2012), and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013), while studying studio composition at Purchase College's Conservatory of Music. The albums were originally made as her senior project. Her third studio album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek, was released in 2014 on the label Double Double Whammy.
Puberty 2 is the fourth studio album by American indie pop singer-songwriter Mitski, released on June 17, 2016, the first release through Dead Oceans. It was produced by longtime collaborator Patrick Hyland. Upon its release, Puberty 2 received widespread acclaim from music critics, with many praising Mitski's emotional delivery and lyrically complex themes, which include longing, love, depression, alienation and racial identity. The album was preceded by the lead single "Your Best American Girl" on March 1, 2016, alongside the announcement of the album, and the second single "Happy" on May 3, 2016. A music video for "A Burning Hill" was released on October 11, 2016, followed by a tour covering North American and Europe.

The discography of mewithoutYou, an American rock band, consists of seven studio albums, a live album, seven extended plays (EPs) or maxi singles, eleven music videos, and twenty-nine appearances on compilation, tribute, soundtrack, and split albums or in video collections. The band was formed in 2001 as a side project to The Operation, an alternative band active from 1999 to 2001 that shared most of its members with mewithoutYou. The debut demo EP by mewithoutYou, Blood Enough For Us All, was released in 2000, the year before the band was officially founded. The first undisputed release by the band was I Never Said That I Was Brave which was released on Kickstart Audio in 2001. Over the next year, the band signed to Tooth & Nail Records and released their debut album, [A→B] Life. The album is post-hardcore with shouted and screamed vocals. In 2004, mewithoutYou released their second album Catch for Us the Foxes, which was their first album to chart, reaching number 13 on the Top Christian Albums chart.
Laurel Hell is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Mitski, released on February 4, 2022, through Dead Oceans. Patrick Hyland produced the album, which has been characterized as a record blending synth-pop, indie pop and electronic rock styles. According to Mitski, the album title is a folk term for being trapped in thickets of laurel that grow in the southern Appalachian Mountains.
"My Love Mine All Mine" is a song by American singer-songwriter Mitski, released as the third single from her seventh studio album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We on October 3, 2023. The song features country-influenced piano and pedal steel guitar, while its lyrics depict Mitski requesting the Moon to take her love when she dies and shine it back down to Earth.

Jeni Magaña is a Mexican-American multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, experimental musician, and photographer based in Los Angeles, USA. She releases solo music as Magana, and is one-half of the pen pin duo with Emily Moore. Magaña also currently performs and records with Mitski, and has previously worked with Lady Lamb, and Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards.
