The NWC educates and develops leaders, supports defining the future Navy and associated roles and missions, supports combat readiness, and strengthens global maritime partnerships.
The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is a public graduate school operated by the United States Navy and located in Monterey, California. It grants master's degrees, doctoral degrees, and certificates. Established in 1909, the school also offers research fellowship opportunities at the postdoctoral level through the National Academies' National Research Council research associateship program.

Hispanic Admirals in the United States Navy can trace their tradition of naval military service to the Hispanic sailors, who have served in the Navy in every war and conflict since the American Revolution. Prior to the Civil War, the highest rank reached by a Hispanic-American in the Navy was commodore. Such was the case of Commodore Uriah Phillips Levy (1792–1862), a Sephardic Jew of Hispanic descent and great grandson of Dr. Samuel Nunez, who served in the War of 1812. During the American Civil War, the government of the United States recognized that the rapid expanding Navy was in need of admirals therefore, Congress proceeded to authorize the appointment of nine officers the rank of rear admiral. On July 16, 1862, Flag Officer David Glasgow Farragut became the first Hispanic-American to be appointed to the rank of rear admiral. Two years later (1864), Farragut became a vice admiral, and in 1866 the Navy's first full admiral. During World War I, Robert Lopez, the first Hispanic graduate of the United States Naval Academy, served with the rank of commodore in command of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and during World War II five Hispanics served with the ranks of rear admiral or above in either the European or Pacific Theater's of the war. As of April 2007, twenty-two Hispanic-Americans have reached the rank of admiral, and of this number thirteen were graduates of the USNA.
Michelle Janine Howard is a retired United States Navy four-star admiral who last served as the commander of United States Naval Forces Europe while she concurrently was the commander of United States Naval Forces Africa and commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples. She previously was the 38th Vice Chief of Naval Operations. She assumed her last assignment on June 7, 2016.
Hispanics in the United States Naval Academy account for the largest minority group in the institution. According to the Academy, the Class of 2009 includes 271 (22.2%) minority midshipmen. Out of these 271 midshipmen, 115 are of Hispanic heritage. In 2004, of the total of 736 female midshipmen, 74 (10%) of them were of Hispanic descent.
Ann Elisabeth Rondeau is a retired United States Navy vice admiral. During her tenure in the navy, she received two Defense Distinguished Service Medals, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, and four Legion of Merit awards. Rondeau was the president of National Defense University and, after serving as the president of the College of DuPage, was chosen by United States Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer to be president of the Naval Postgraduate School in 2019.

Vice Admiral Kendall Lee Card is a United States Navy aviator and flag officer and the former Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Dominance and Director of Naval Intelligence; succeeded by Vice Admiral Ted N. Branch in July 2013. Born in Reeves County, Texas and raised in Fort Stockton, he graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1977. He also holds a master's degree in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College, and is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School.
John Francis Kirby is a retired rear admiral in the United States Navy who currently serves as the Pentagon Press Secretary and Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. He previously worked as a military and diplomatic analyst for CNN from 2017 to 2021. Prior to that, he served as the spokesperson for the United States Department of State from 2015 to 2017. In 2021, Kirby joined the Pentagon as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and concurrently as Spokesperson for the Department of Defense.
John Benjamin Totushek is a retired vice admiral in the United States Navy. He was Chief of the United States Naval Reserve from October 1998 until October 2003. After retirement, he served as president and CEO of the United States Navy Memorial Foundation from November 2011 to July 2016.

Brian Bentley Brown is a retired United States Navy vice admiral and navigator who last served as commander of the U.S. Naval Information Forces from June 2018 to May 2021. Brian became the second naval officer to assume the NAVIFOR office since it was established. In 1990, he served as a surface warfare officer and was subsequently transferred to the navy's operational arm oceanography command. He was also appointed as the chief of the Navy Space Cadre. As a navigator and administrator, he served aboard aircraft carriers, including USS La Salle and USS Theodore Roosevelt.
Randy B. Crites is an American naval officer, navigator, operations officer and vice admiral in the United States Navy, serving as deputy chief of naval operations for integration of capabilities and resources in office since May 15, 2020. Prior to retaining the position, he served as the deputy assistant secretary of the navy for budget, and was subsequently appointed as director of the fiscal management division in Washington, D.C. until he was promoted to the rank of vice admiral in 2020.
