Jahrell Bryan, commonly known as Fumez the Engineer, is a British audio engineer from London. Joining Pressplay Media - a UK rap platform - in 2012, he later moved to Link Up TV, where he would stay before moving back to Pressplay Media following the beginning of his Plugged In freestyle series in 2020. Between his move to Link Up TV and his return to Pressplay, he would release two mixtapes, named The Mix-Tape and The Mix-Tape 2, with the latter being released in 2018. [3]

Career

In a 2016 interview with Trapped, Fumez said that he began his career at the age of 15 in a youth club; at the time, however, he wouldn't take a career that seriously. [4] In 2012, Fumez helped to launch Pressplay Media, [5] a major UK rap platform, [6] at the age of 18. Later becoming its owner, he would go into debt as a result of the company; he would sell his shares to Daniel Olkhovski, a former director of Pressplay who Fumez used to manage. [5]

Following this, Fumez went to Link Up TV, another UK rap platform. During his time there, he would engineer for Link Up TV's Mic Check and Behind Barz freestyle series; [5] he would also begin several series, such as Studio with Fumez - where he would ask artists questions submitted by the audience [7] - and the Plugged In series of freestyles, with the first Plugged In freestyle being released on 29 March 2020. [8] Sometime following this, he was asked to return to Pressplay Media by Olkhovski. [5] By April 2021, the Plugged In series had over 100 million views and over 100 million streams; [9] by the end of the year, his "Plugged In Freestyle" with A92 and Offica reached number 29 on the Irish Singles Chart and number 39 on the UK chart. In 2021, Fumez engineered a remix of "Bad Habits" by Ed Sheeran, which featured Tion Wayne and Central Cee. [13] The remix was credited with "boosting" the song to 8 weeks at number one. [14] He would also begin the In the Mix series, which followed his journey in the music industry. [15] [16] In November, his headline show at the Islington O2 Academy was canceled to due a section 60 order being placed over the N1 postcode, where the O2 Academy was located. [3]

Konnichiwa is the fourth studio album by British rapper Skepta. The title is the greeting "hello" in the Japanese language. After numerous delays, it was released on 6 May 2016 by Boy Better Know. Konnichiwa features guest appearances from Jme, Boy Better Know, D Double E, Novelist, Wiley, Chip, Pharrell Williams, ASAP Nast and Young Lord. Konnichiwa was executively produced by Skepta himself, who produced all but three songs on the album. Pharrell also worked on production with Skepta on the album.

UK drill is a subgenre of drill music and road rap that originated in the South London district of Brixton from 2012 onwards. While being sonically distinct from Chicago drill music, it embraces its aesthetic and melds it with road rap, a British style of gangsta rap that became popular in the years prior to the existence of drill. UK drill lyrical content tends to be truculent, depicting the harsh realism of their lifestyles. The explicit lyricism has stimulated discussion about whether the subgenre is a factor in an increase in knife crime in London. Gang affiliation and socioeconomically-deprived backgrounds are common amongst UK drill artists.

Shylo Batchelor Ashby Milwood, known professionally as Russ Millions, is an English rapper. In December 2018 he released his single "Gun Lean" on Virgin Records. Devonte Kasi Martin Perkins, better known by his stage name K-Trap, is a British rapper and songwriter from South London. He is known for his prominence in the UK drill scene, releasing notable mixtapes such as The Last Whip (2017), The Re-Up (2018) and No Magic (2019). Previously, K-Trap was widely known for wearing a balaclava to conceal his identity until June 2019 when he revealed his face for the first time in the music video for his single ‘Big Mood’, promoting his mixtape No Magic.

Dark Lane Demo Tapes is the sixth mixtape by Canadian rapper Drake. A92 is an Irish drill collective based in Drogheda. Named after the postal code of Drogheda town, A92 was formed in 2020 and went viral following the release of "Plugged In Freestyle".

Tomas Adedayo Adeyinka, commonly known by his stage name Offica, is an Irish rapper of Nigerian descent. During a youth soccer career between 2016 and 2019, he released his debut single "No Hook" in 2018, going viral following the release of "Naruto Drillings" in 2019 and "Plugged In Freestyle" alongside drill collective A92 in 2020.

Pete & Bas are a British hip hop duo based in London, formed in 2017. They are notable for the songs "The Old Estate", "Dents in a Peugeot", and their debut single, "Shut Ya Mouth”.

Kemani Kane Duggan, known professionally as Bandokay, is a British rapper. He is a member of the UK drill group OFB.

Andre Deer, known professionally as Double Lz, is a British rapper and songwriter. He is a member of the UK drill group OFB. Debuting in 2018, he released two mixtapes - Frontstreet and Drill Commandments - alongside Bandokay and SJ in 2019 and 2021, respectively. He released his debut solo mixtape, Two Lz Make a Win, in 2022.

Irish hip hop, also known as Irish rap, is a term for any hip hop music produced and performed by a person who was born or grew up in Ireland. This genre is made up of a variety of subgenre such as Irish grime/drill, Irish Language rap, alternative rap and Irish trap. Each of these infuses influences from both Irish culture and another culture.
