G.V. Atri (born G. Vijayakumar Atri, 21 May 1964, died - 30 April 2000) was an Indian singer in the Kannada language (spoken in the state of Karnataka of India).
He was born in Kanakapura and raised in Bangalore city. He was trained in the Hindustani form of Indian classical music during his formative years under his guru, Sheshadri Gavai of Bangalore.
Atri specialized in sugama sangeetha (light music), the modern singing form. He also sang as a playback singer for more than a dozen Kannada movies. He performed live on stage with avariety of songs. He was popularly known as "Junior P.B. Sreenivas", as his voice resembled that of the famous playback singer, P.B. Sreenivas. He composed and sang a few thousand songs encompassing a musical repertoire of romantic, devotional, patriotic, folk and children's songs for many of his albums.
He was a member of the Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy, a Karnataka government institution. He organized music oriented social events such as sugama sangeetha seminars, recognition tof historic musicians and music competitions.
He also organized a music workshop for the benefit of inmates of a Bangalore prison. He believed that music improves the qualities of human beings and it could reform even criminals.[ citation needed ]
He founded the Sangeetha Ganga, a foundation and music school to train and encourage young and upcoming singers in Kannada. Many have attended Sangeetha Ganga.
He died, along with five of his family members, during a bath in a river at Sringeri. [1] Many awards[ which? ] have been instituted in his memory by public cultural organizations to discover and encourage young talents.
Kattassery Joseph Yesudas is an Indian playback singer and musician who sings Indian classical, devotional and film songs. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of Indian Music and also as a cultural icon of Kerala. Yesudas is estimated to have recorded more than 50,000 songs in various Indian languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Odia, Bengali, Marathi as well as Arabic, English, Latin, and Russian, in a career spanning six decades. Sugama Sangeetha, a variety of Bhavageethe, is an Indian musical genre in which poetry in the Kannada language is set to music. It gained recognition with the work of P. Kalinga Rao in the mid -20th century. Mysore Ananthaswamy and C. Aswath developed the form further in the 1960s and 1970s.
Prathivadhi Bhayankara Sreenivas widely known as P. B. Sreenivas was an Indian playback singer, composer, harmonium player, lyricist, littérateur, and poet known for his works in South cinema, and Bollywood. His major chunk of work has been in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu languages. He has garnered the Kannada Rajyotsava Prashasti, the Tamil Kalaimamani Award, and the Madhavapeddi Satyam Award by the Andhra Siva Foundation, for his contributions to music and cinema. In his honor, Sri Kala Sudha Telugu Association of Chennai, instituted the P. B. Sreenivas Mahapurush Award to honor veteran singers.
Sharada, known as Kavita Krishnamurthy or Kavita Subramaniam, is an Indian playback and classical singer. Mysore Ananthaswamy was one of the pioneers of Kannada Bhavageethe in Karnataka. He was a very popular composer and singer of Kannada Sugama Sangeetha. He composed music for several poems and bhavageethe written by well-known Kannada poets like Kuvempu, K. S. Nissar Ahmed, N S Lakshminarayana Bhatta, etc., and popularized them throughout the globe. Some of his most famous songs include: Jogada Siri Belakinali, Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate, O Nanna Chetana and Ede Tumbi Haadidenu.
At a young age, Ananthaswamy played Mandolin that he purchased for 25 rupees. Later, he switched to Harmonium due to difficulty in fine tuning the Mandolin.
Channarayapatna Ashwath was an Indian music composer and exponent of Bhavageete in the Kannada language. He was also a singer, and sang many of his own compositions. He was credited with singing Bhavageete songs and making sure that they reached the common man.

Shivamogga Subbanna or Shimoga Subbanna was an Indian Sugama Sangeetha(Light Music) playback singer in the Kannada language. He received a national award for singing for the song Kaadu Kudure Odi Banditta in the film Kaadu Kudure. He was the first Kannadiga to win National Award for playback singing. Apart from being an exemplary singer and musician, he was also an advocate and a notary public.
