Resende is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. The population is 132,312 in an area of 1094 km2. Resendense refers to people or things that come from or inhabit Resende. It is the oldest town in this region, which has boundaries with the state of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. It is an important industrial, automotive, metallurgical, and tourist center, and headquarters of the world's second-largest military complex, the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN). In the 1970s and 1980s, during the military regime, Brazil had a secret program intended to develop nuclear weapons. The program was dismantled in 1990, five years after the military regime ended. Brazil is considered to possess no weapons of mass destruction but does have some of the key technologies needed to produce nuclear weapons.

Taça Rio is an annual football tournament attached to Campeonato Carioca, the state football league in the Rio de Janeiro state. It has been organized since 1982 by the Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation. It has had different formats throughout its history. Since 2021, it has been played between clubs that finished 5th to 8th in the Taça Guanabara.

Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Amar" written by José da Ponte, Alexandre Honrado and Ernesto Leite. The song was performed by the duo 2B, which was internally selected by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) to represent the nation at the 2005 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. 2B and "Amar" were announced as the Portuguese entry on 22 March 2005 and the song was presented to the public on 1 April 2005.
