GSP Orizont is a semi-submersible, jackup independent leg cantilever drilling rig operated by GSP Drilling, a Grup Servicii Petroliere subsidiary, and currently contracted by Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company for drilling in the Iranian section of the Persian Gulf. Description

GSP Orizont drilling rig was designed by Sonnat Offshore and was built by Petrom at the Galaţi Shipyard in 1982. [2] The rig was completely reconstructed and refurbished in 2010 at a cost of US$50 million. [3] The rig was owned and operated by Petrom from 1982 to 2005 when the company sold its six offshore platforms (including Atlas, Jupiter, Orizont, Prometeu and Saturn) to Grup Servicii Petroliere for US$100 million. [4]

GSP Orizont has a length of 52.4 metres (172 ft), breadth of 40.8 metres (134 ft), draft of 9.75 metres (32.0 ft), height of 120 metres (390 ft) and depth of 6.4 metres (21 ft). She has a maximum drilling depth of 9,100 metres (29,900 ft) and she could operate at a water depth of 91 metres (300 ft). [2] As a drilling rig, GSP Orizont is equipped with advanced drilling equipment and has to meet strict levels of certification under international law. GSP Orizont is able to maneuver with its own engines (to counter drift and ocean currents), but for long-distance relocation it must be moved by specialist tugboats. The rig is capable of withstanding severe sea conditions including 12 metres (39 ft) waves and 155 kilometres per hour (96 mph) winds. [2]

Currently the GSP Orizont is operated by the Iranian company Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company which uses the drilling rig at its Persian Gulf oil and natural gas prospects. [1]

An oil platform, oil rig, offshore platform, or oil and/or gas production platform is a large structure with facilities to extract, and process petroleum and natural gas that lie in rock formations beneath the seabed. <i>Deepwater Horizon</i> Former offshore oil drilling rig

Deepwater Horizon was an ultra-deepwater, dynamically positioned, semi-submersible offshore drilling rig owned by Transocean and operated by BP. On 20 April 2010, while drilling at the Macondo Prospect, a blowout caused an explosion on the rig that killed 11 crewmen and ignited a fireball visible from 40 miles (64 km) away. The fire was inextinguishable and, two days later, on 22 April, the Horizon sank, leaving the well gushing at the seabed and causing the largest marine oil spill in history.

The Al Shaheen Oil Field is a production oil and gas field off the north east coast of Qatar in the Persian Gulf, 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Doha. The oil field lies above the North Gas Field, one of the largest gas fields in the world. The field has been operated by Maersk Oil Qatar AS of Denmark until July 2017 under a production sharing agreement with QatarEnergy, on behalf of the state of Qatar. As of June 2016, QatarEnergy and the French major TotalEnergies established a new company known as "North Oil Company (Qatar)". The new company is 70% owned by QatarEnergy and 30% by TotalEnergies. North Oil Company took over field operations on 14 July 2017.

Grup Servicii Petroliere

Grup Servicii Petroliere is a Romanian company providing offshore integrated services for oil and gas industry. The company, established in 2004, is a member of UPETROM Group.

The Iran Marine Industrial Company, also known as SADRA, was founded in 1968 as a small ship repair yard in Bushehr. Since then, SADRA has established itself as the leading shipbuilding and shiprepairing company in Iran. SADRA is also active in offshore oil & gas development. SADRA specializes in building ships, docks and floating oil rigs. Sadra Group is a sister company of Iran's state-owned Iran Shipbuilding and Offshores Industries Complex Co. (ISOICO). As of April 2009, the IRGC-controlled construction conglomerate, Khatam al-Anbia owns a controlling stake in SADRA.

North Drilling Company is an Iranian company specialized in drilling oil and gas wells and its services in all regions of Iran and world, to global customers. The company was privatized in June 2009. As of February 2010, Mehr Eghtesad, a quasi-government investment company, owned 20% of its shares on the Tehran Stock Exchange.

GSP Saturn is a semi-submersible, jackup independent leg cantilever drilling rig operated by GSP Drilling, a Grup Servicii Petroliere subsidiary, and currently contracted by Wintershall Noordzee for drilling in the North Sea. The drilling unit is registered in Panama.

Petroiran Development Company Limited is an oil and gas company based in Tehran, Iran. It is a subsidiary of Naftiran Intertrade, a part of the National Iranian Oil Company, responsible for developing upstream oil projects. The company was established in 1997 and in 1999 it was registered in St. Helier, Jersey.

Scarabeo 8 is an ultra deepwater 6th generation semi-submersible drilling rig. It is owned and operated by Saipem. The vessel is registered in Nassau, Bahamas.

The Missing Iranian oil rig or Fortuna rig, is a corruption scandal in which an oil rig, the GSP Fortuna, was bought by the Iranian government for US$88 million, but was never delivered. The case attracted major attention in Iran and abroad.
