6960 Raveningham Hall is a Great Western Railway, 4-6-0 Modified Hall Class locomotive, built in March 1944 at Swindon Works to a design by Frederick Hawksworth. It is one of six of this class that survive in preservation. The locomotive is named after Raveningham Hall in Norfolk.
Its first shed allocation was Old Oak Common with a transfer to Reading in September 1953, then to its last shed allocation Oxford in September 1963. The locomotive was withdrawn from service in June 1964 [1] and sold to Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales for cutting up.
6960 was saved for preservation and left the yard in October 1972 as the 26th departure from Barry having been acquired by David Edleston of Derby. It was eventually sold to Brian Thomas and moved to Steamtown Carnforth. Restored in 1975, the locomotive took part in the Stockton and Darlington Railway 150th Anniversary celebrations at Shildon.
In 1977 6960 moved to the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) [2] where she ran with 4930 Hagley Hall's tender while her own was put behind 4930. In 1978 6960 became the first SVR-based locomotive to haul a rail tour on the main line. [3]
Following a decision by the owner to sell the locomotive, 6960 left the SVR in late 1996, initially moving to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. [4] Sold to Jeremy Hosking, by 2008 it was at The Flour Mill workshops in the Forest of Dean receiving a thorough overhaul. It was based at the West Somerset Railway but due to newly imposed weight restrictions, was transferred back to the SVR in May 2019 in exchange for the lighter 7802 Bradley Manor. [5] In November 2019 it was decided that 6960 would remain at the SVR. [6] After its boiler certificate expired in July 2021, it moved to the One:One Collection in Margate for static display. [7]
The Severn Valley Railway is a standard gauge heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire, England, named after the company that originally built the railway over which it now operates. The 16-mile (26 km) heritage line runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, following the course of the River Severn along the Severn Valley for much of its route, and crossing the river on the historic Victoria Bridge.

A total of 259 were built at Swindon Works, numbered 4900–4999, 5900–5999 and 6900–6958. The LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 and LNER Thompson Class B1 both drew heavily on design features of the Hall Class. After nationalisation in 1948, British Railways gave them the power classification 5MT.

Great Western Railway Modified Hall Class, 7903 Foremarke Hall is a preserved British steam locomotive, built in 1949 at Swindon Works. The loco's first shed allocation Old Oak Common, and it was named after the Derbyshire stately home. In both August 1950 and March 1959, the loco's shed allocations was still Old Oak Common, but by the time of the loco's withdrawal in 1964, her allocation was at Cardiff East Dock.

It has carried the name RAF Biggin Hill in preservation, though it never carried this in service. Number 5110 was built in 1935 by the Vulcan Foundry. It was built with a low-degree superheat domeless boiler and still carries a domeless boiler.
4920 Dumbleton Hall is a GWR 4900 Class 4-6-0 steam locomotive, built by the Great Western Railway's Swindon Works in March 1929. Named after Dumbleton Hall, its first shed allocation was at Old Oak Common. In August 1950, the next shed allocation was Reading, and in March 1959 it was allocated to Newton Abbot. The locomotive's last shed allocation was Bristol Barrow Road. It was withdrawn from British Railways service in December 1965 and sold to Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, Wales.
7812 Erlestoke Manor is a preserved GWR 7800 Class steam locomotive, operated by the Great Western Railway and later British Railways. Owned by the Erlestoke Manor Fund, as at December 2022 it was in operational condition on the Severn Valley Railway.
4930 Hagley Hall is a Great Western Railway, 4-6-0 Hall class locomotive, built in May 1929 at Swindon Works to a design by Charles Collett. It is one of eleven of this class that made it into preservation. The locomotive is named after Hagley Hall in Worcestershire.
7802 Bradley Manor is a 7800 'Manor' Class 4-6-0 steam locomotive. Built by the Great Western Railway at its Swindon Works in January 1938 it had an operating life of 27 years being withdrawn in November 1965. Designed by Charles Collett, it is one of nine of the class to be preserved and is currently based on the Severn Valley Railway.
