Gabriel Casey was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Lispole and played with Kerry at all levels in the 1970s and 1980s.

Personal Life

He was a son of Kerry inter-county footballer of the 1930s and 1940s Bill Casey. He was also a cousin of Brian Mullins who played with Dublin in the 1970s and 1980s. [1]

His brothers, Gearóid and Riobard, also played with Kerry at all levels. [2]

Club

At club level, he lined out with Lispole and West Kerry.

With Lispole, he won eight West Kerry Senior Football Championship titles, as well as a Kerry Junior Championship title. [3]

With West Kerry he was a two time County Senior Championship winner in 1984 [4] as captain and again in 1985. [5]

Minor

He lined out with Kerry at minor level first in 1975. He was Right Half Back as Kerry overcame Cork in the Munster final. After a semi-final win over Roscommon, Casey and his team mates qualified for the All-Ireland final. He picked up a winners medal after a 1–10 to 0–04 over Tyrone. [6]

He was underage again in 1976. After an opening round win over New York, he lined out in another Munster final. This time Cork took the title. [7]

Under 21

After his displays at minor level, Casey joined the U21 team.

His first appearance was in the 1977 Munster final with Cork. A 2–08 to 0–08 win saw him pick up a Munster winners medal. After a semi-final win over Leitrim, Kerry qualified for the All-Ireland final. Casey was again at Right Half Back against Down. A 1–11 to 1–05 win seen him pick up an All-Ireland U21 winners medal. He picked up his second Munster medal in 1978 after another final win over Cork. A semi-final win over Louth seen him line out in his second All-Ireland final.In a close game with Roscommon Casey fell short of second All-Ireland medal in a 1–09 to 1–08 loss. [9]

In his last year of U21 Kerry lost out to Cork in the Quarter-final. [10]

Junior

He joined the Kerry Junior team in 1983. He picked up a Munster winners medal after a final win over Cork. A semi-final win over Galway seen Kerry into the All-Ireland Home final with Dublin. The sides ended level and Casey missed the replay. He was however back for the final with Yorkshire in Tralee. A 0–15 to 0–02 win seen Casey picked up an All-Ireland winners medal. [11]

He made another appearance at Junior level in 1988, but was on the losing side to Tipperary. [12]

Senior

Despite his success at underage level he only made two appearances at senior level. Both coming during the 1979 National League. [13]

Ferriter suffered a shoulder injury which curtailed a promising senior career with Kerry at a relatively early age.

Pa Laide is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Austin Stacks club and at senior level for the Kerry county team in the late 1980s till the late 1990s.

Gene Farrell is a footballer from Camp, County Kerry. He played with the Kerry intercounty team during the 1990s winning Munster Championships at all levels Minor (1990), Under 21 (1992), Senior (1996).

Vincent Knightley is a former Gaelic footballer from Annascaul, County Kerry, Ireland. He played with Kerry during the late 80's and 90's.

James O'Shea was a former footballer from County Kerry. He was a star of many Kerry underage teams in the 90's. He also played with the Cork team winning a Munster Championship as a sub in 2002.

Ronan O'Connor is a Gaelic footballer who played for Kerry at all levels from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s. He then moved on to the Under 21 team and again won a Munster Championship in 2002. In 2002 he also joined the Senior team that made it to the All Ireland final but lost out to Armagh. He later went on to win an All Ireland medal in 2004 coming on as a sub in the final win over Mayo. He also won a National League medal in 2006.

Brian Clarke was a Gaelic footballer from Killarney, County Kerry. He played with Kerry during the 1990s. At club level he played with the famous Dr. Croke's club from Killarney.

Sean O'Mahony is an Irish sportsperson. He plays Gaelic football with his local club Castlegregory and was a member of the Kerry inter-county teams during the 90's. He was part of the Kerry Minor, Under 21, Junior and Senior teams.

Ruairi O'Rahilly was a footballer from Co Kerry. He played football with Ballymacelligott and Kerry. He played with Kerry at all levels during the 1990s and early 2000s.

Fintan Ashe is an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Dingle and was the Kerry inter-county team at all levels during the late 1980s and 1990s. He won an All-Ireland minor medal in 1988. In 1990, he was part of the All-Ireland Under 21 winning panel and the following year he won an All-Ireland Junior title.
