Gabriel Georgiades (born January 18, 1957) is a professor of Aerospace Engineering in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He is a widely published author known throughout the world as one of the leading authorities on light aircraft spin tendencies and recovery along with a major contributor to the creation of the finite element method of analyzing aircraft structures.
Professor Gabriel Georgiades obtained a B.A. from Jacksonville University in 1979 along with a B.A.E. from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1979. [1]
After working in industry for a number of years at notable aviation companies such as Piper Aircraft, Georgiades pursued an M.S. from Pennsylvania State University in aerospace engineering, graduating in 1982. From 1985 onward Georgiades has been an active full-time professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, teaching courses in structures and Finite element method. [2] Gabriel Georgiades is an elected national fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Gabriel has held elected AIAA offices such as regional chair, chair-elect, VC of education and advisory committee representative and was the former "Evolution of Flight" program officer for the San Gabriel Valley Region AIAA. The Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering is the engineering college at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona located in Pomona, California, United States. Known for its "learn by doing" philosophy, the college's motto is: "Learn by Doing: Making Imagination Real". Cal Poly has one of the "most recognized engineering programs in the country" and, with nearly 6,000 students, it is also the largest engineering college in Southern California, the second largest college of engineering in the California State University system, and the seventeenth largest engineering college in the United States. In the 2022 U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" edition, the College of Engineering is ranked 10th out of 210 public and private undergraduate engineering schools in the U.S. where doctorates are not offered.
International Polytechnic High School, commonly referred to as iPoly, is a public college-preparatory demonstration high school (9-12) found in the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona campus and operated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) in collaboration with the College of Education and Integrative Studies at the university. iPoly's curriculum is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is approved by the University of California and California State University. It runs hand-in-hand with the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), which is also run by LACOE. Since iPoly does not lie in a fixed school district, it draws students from all over Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange and Riverside counties. Most of the students come from the Pomona and San Gabriel valleys. In 2009, 2013, and 2019, iPoly was honored as a California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education.
Guy Antony Jameson, FRS, FREng is Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. Jameson is known for his pioneering work in the field of computational fluid dynamics. He has published more than 300 scientific papers in a wide range of areas including computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, and control theory.
Thomas Joseph Robert Hughes is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics and currently holds the Computational and Applied Mathematics Chair (III) at the Oden Institute at The University of Texas at Austin. Hughes has been listed as an ISI Highly Cited Author in Engineering by the ISI Web of Knowledge, Thomson Scientific Company.
Ivo M. Babuška was a Czech-American mathematician, noted for his studies of the finite element method and the proof of the Babuška–Lax–Milgram theorem in partial differential equations. One of the celebrated result in the finite elements is the so-called Ladyzenskaja–Babuška–Brezzi (LBB) condition, which provides sufficient conditions for a stable mixed formulation. The LBB condition has guided mathematicians and engineers to develop state-of-the-art formulations for many technologically important problems like Darcy flow, Stokes flow, incompressible Navier–Stokes, nearly incompressible elasticity.
The Cal Poly Pomona College of Environmental Design is a college part of the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. The college houses over 1,600 students; making it one of largest environmental design programs in the United States. The college offers bachelor's degrees in five departments, as well as three master's degree programs. It is the only academic unit within the California State University system to be associated with a Pritzker Prize laureate.
The Cal Poly Pomona College of Business Administration is the business college at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona located in Pomona, California, United States.
