Gagarin Nathaniel (born December 28, 1995) is an Indonesian competitive swimmer. He is currently first rank, holding two all-time records for 100 M & 200 M Men's Breaststroke in Indonesia (2017-present). [2] [3] He is best known for his highest career achievement at SEA Games 2017, breaking the national record for 100 M Men's Breaststroke last made in 2009 by Indra Gunawan, and won Indonesia's first Gold Medal for that event since 1993 by Wirmandi Sugriat. Swimming career

Gagarin first broke the national record at the Jakabaring Aquatic Stadium in Palembang. He broke the record in the 200 M Men's Breaststroke with a time of 2:15:35. He broke the old record of 2:16:61. In the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) event, Gagarin also won a gold medal which took place at the Baku Aquatics Center in Azerbaijan. In the event, he managed to record the fastest time of 2 minutes 17.23 seconds. [4]

In SEA Games 2017 held in National Aquatic Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Gagarin won his gold medal from 100m breaststroke, with a recorded a time of 1:01:76. While the second position was occupied by the Filipino swimmer, James Deiparine with a time of 1:02:11. While the third position was won by a Thai swimmer, Radomyos Matjiur with a time of 1:02:24. [5] This also marked his second national record, which was last made in 2009 by Indra Gunawan, and marked Indonesia's first gold medal for that event since 1993 by Wirmandi Sugriat. [3]

His latest big achievement was PON Papua XX held in Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura, where he won four gold medals and broke four game records. Gagarin won gold for 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke along with 4x100m men's medley.

For 50m breaststroke, in the preliminary round of the morning session Gagarin also recorded a PON record of 28.50 seconds, previously held by Indra Gunawan 28.60 seconds in 2016 PON. In the final session, Gagarin sharpened it to 28.34 seconds. [6] For 100 M Breaststroke, Gagarin won another gold medal with a record of 01:02:49, which also became a PON record, previously belonging to Indra Gunawan 01:02:57 at PON 2012. Lastly, for 200m breaststroke, Gagarin won gold medal with a recorded time of 2:17:82, breaking another game record by Indra Gunawan made in 2012 PON in Riau, which had lasted since the 2012 PON, 2:17:98. [7]

Currently, Gagarin is placed first rank in Indonesia's men's breaststroke event, holding his all time national records.

He is the Americas record holder in the short course 50 meter breaststroke, 100 meter breaststroke, and 200 meter breaststroke as well as the American record holder in the long course 50 meter breaststroke. In the 50 meter breaststroke, he won the World Short Course titles in 2021 and 2022 and World Long Course title in 2022. The Men's 100 metre breaststroke event at the 2013 SEA Games took place on 13 December 2013 at Wunna Theikdi Aquatics Centre.

Benjamin Proud is an English competitive swimmer, representing Great Britain at the Olympic Games, the FINA World Aquatics Championships and LEN European Aquatics Championships, and England at the Commonwealth Games. Proud specialises in sprint freestyle and butterfly races, specifically the 50-metre distance in both. He is the 2022 World Champion in the 50 metre freestyle, his second long course world title. He is the 2017 world champion in the 50-metre butterfly. He is only the third male swimmer to be simultaneously short-course and long-course World Champion at 50 metre freestyle, after César Cielo and Florent Manaudou.

At the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games in Nassau, Bahamas, Abeysinghe won two silver medals in the 50m and the 100m Freetyle, becoming the only Sri Lankan in swimming to achieve this feat.

Kristóf Milák is a Hungarian swimmer. He is the current holder of the world record in the long course 200 metre butterfly and the European record in the long course 100 metre butterfly. At his first Olympic Games, the 2020 Summer Olympics, he won a gold medal in the 200 metre butterfly and a silver medal in the 100 metre butterfly. Ilya Syarheyevich Shymanovich is a Belarusian swimmer. He is the world record holder in the short course 100 metre breaststroke and a former world record holder in the short course 50 metre breaststroke. At the 2018 World Championships he won two silver medals, one each in the 100 metre breaststroke and the 50 metre breaststroke. He won two gold medals, one in the 50 metre breaststroke and one in the 200 metre breaststroke, and a silver medal, in the 100 metre breaststroke, at the 2021 European Short Course Championships. At the 2021 World Short Course Championships he won the gold medal in the 100 metre breaststroke.

James Wilby is a British competitive swimmer who specialises in the breaststroke. Wilby is the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion in 200 metre breaststroke, the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion in 100 metre breaststroke, and the 2022 European champion in 200 metre breaststroke. He formed part of the Great Britain team that won World Championship gold in the men's 4 x 100 metre medley relay in 2019, and the England team that won the Commonwealth Games Men's 4 x 100 metre medley relay in 2014 and 2022.

Qin Haiyang is a Chinese swimmer who specializes in the breaststroke and individual medley. He is the current world record holder in the 200m breaststroke. At the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, Qin became the first swimmer in history to win all three breaststroke events at a single edition of the championships. Qin was also the former world junior record holder in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley. In 2023, Qin became the first Asian swimmer to be named as the Male Swimmer of the Year by World Aquatics. In the same year, Qin was also announced as the 'most valuable player' of the 2022 Asian Games.

Vladislav Gerasimenko is a Russian competitive swimmer. He is a world junior record holder in the long course 4×100 metre medley relay, swimming a 59.53 for the breaststroke portion of the relay. He is a four-time medalist at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and a five-time medalist at the World Junior Swimming Championships, spanning breaststroke and freestyle disciplines. He competed at the 2021 European Short Course Swimming Championships, placing sixteenth in the preliminaries of the 50 metre breaststroke.

Jendi Pangabean is an Indonesian Paralympic swimmer who represented Indonesia at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He won gold medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta and 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
