Garth is a village in Powys, mid Wales, in the community of Treflys. It lies on the A483 road between Builth Wells and Beulah at the point where the B4519 joins it from the south. The River Irfon flows to the south of the village.

Garth was associated with the Gwynne family, which included Marmaduke Gwynne (1691–1769) and his daughter Sarah (1726–1822) who were early converts to Methodism Sarah married Charles Wesley (1707–1788) at the nearby Llanlleonfel church in 1749. [2]

The population of the community taken at the 2011 census was 429. It is in the historic county of Brecknockshire (Breconshire) and the older cantref of Cantref Selyf. The community includes the settlements of Crickadarn, Gwenddwr and Llaneglwys.

Marmaduke Gwynne (1691–1769) was a Welsh squire, and an early and influential Methodist convert. He was a scion of the Gwynne family of Glanbrân near Llandovery. Gwynne married well and employed Theophilus Evans as an Anglican private chaplain. He was converted to Methodism by Howell Harris. He served as a legal adviser and financial supporter to the Methodists and his daughter Sarah married Charles Wesley.
Sarah Wesley, née Gwynne, also known as Sally Wesley was the wife of itinerant Methodist Charles Wesley, brother of John Wesley, the main founder of Methodism. The daughter of a wealthy family, Wesley once performed musically for George III and passed this talent onto two of her sons, both of whom were musical prodigies.

Painscastle is a village and community in Powys, Wales which takes its name from the castle at its heart. It lies between Builth and Hay-on-Wye, approximately 3 miles from the Wales-England border today. The community also includes the villages and settlements of Rhosgoch, Bryngwyn, Llandeilo Graban and Llanbedr. The population as of the 2011 UK Census was 524. It is represented by the Painscastle and Rhosgoch Community Council, which comprises eight community councillors. It is included in the Glasbury electoral ward for Powys County Council elections.
Builth Wells F.C. is a Welsh football club based in Builth Wells, Powys. They are currently playing in the Ardal NE League. The club is the most successful club in the history of the Mid Wales South Football League, with ten championship wins. The club's reserve team currently plays in this league.
