PT Digdaya Media Nusantara (Garuda TV, formerly as Digdaya TV) is a national private television network in Indonesia owned by PT Digdaya Media Nusantara, which is affiliated with Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto. [2]
In April 2018, the existence of this television broadcast appeared "mysteriously" on satellite Palapa D, was still in the trial broadcast stage and at that time did not yet have a channel name. In its trial, this broadcast played a number of video clips belonging to Sabyan Gambus, liked as Ya Habibal Qolbi, Deen Assalam, Ya Asyiqol Musthofa and Rohman Ya Rohman obtained from the official Sabyan Gambus YouTtube channel. In mid-2018, during the trial period, there was a discussion to name this broadcast as Kita Indonesia (We are Indonesia) TV which was intended to broadcast a number of live broadcasts of the 2018 Asian Games, although this did not materialize until finally the broadcasting rights for the event were officially owned by Emtek.
Instead, this broadcast was given the name Digdaya TV while the trial broadcast was underway. After about 4 months of trial broadcasts, on August 23, 2018, the official broadcast was finally broadcast. Its establishment was claimed as "alternative media as a solution to the lack of fair information in mainstream media, while also being a reference media for accurate information and dignified entertainment." However, Digdaya TV's program is actually not much different from a regular television station, with news, entertainment, travel, culinary and other programs. Digdaya TV wants to present a balanced program, not only in the concept of news and entertainment, but also to all levels of society both in cities and villages and all generations. [3]
Since November 10, 2021, Digdaya TV has changed its name to Garuda TV, which is claimed to be in line with the desire to allocate a larger portion to educational programs and maintain the spirit of nationalism, especially for local communities. [4] Starting August 5, 2023, Garuda TV expanded its broadcasts from satellite to terrestrial television. This date was later designated as Garuda TV's official anniversary due to its relaunch. Compared to other new players in the broadcasting industry, this expansion effort was carried out steadily, as evidenced by Garuda TV's rapid expansion into many regions and its presentation of programs featuring well-known presenters. However, in terms of news coverage, Garuda TV tends to focus more on the president's performance. [5]
Although founded by Prabowo Subianto, the official person credited as its founder and CEO is Sudaryono, a Gerindra cadre who is currently the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, and also a long-time confidant of Prabowo. [6] According to him, Garuda TV is not just a news TV, but also a creative educational media.[1] Politically, this channel is still related to Sin Po TV. [7] [8]
Initially, Garuda/Digdaya TV could only be enjoyed via streaming via the internet, but some time after its inauguration, its broadcasts could be received via satellite television. [9] The satellite occupied at that time was Palapa D. [10] Now after changing its name, GarudaTV is broadcast from Satelit Telkom-4 Frequency 4080 Mhz, Symbol Rate 32677, Horizontal Polarization, and SID 008. [11]
