Gary Rashad Banks (born November 4, 1981) is the current wide receivers coach for the Troy Trojans and a former American football wide receiver who played for the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League. He was signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at Troy.
Banks attended Southern Choctaw High School, leading the Indians to back-to-back state titles in 1998 and 1999 while playing quarterback.
After high school, he was selected in the fifth round of the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago Cubs and played right field for three years as part of the Cubs' minor league system. Banks never played beyond class A, playing two years for the rookie league Arizona League Cubs and two years for the class A Boise Hawks. [1]
After baseball, Banks went back to school and played college football at Troy University, switching positions from quarterback to wide receiver. While playing for the Trojans, Gary was used periodically in trick play situations and accumulated a career passing record with 8-of-9 passes completed for 110 yards and two touchdowns. [2]
Banks was not invited to the NFL Combine. However, at Troy's Pro Day, Banks recorded an official 4.51 40-yard dash and 35½ inch vertical.
Banks went undrafted in the 2008 NFL Draft, but was signed by the San Diego Chargers shortly after. [3] After numerous injuries to the Chargers wide receiver corps, Banks was signed to the active roster on October 30, 2010. In his first NFL debut, he made his first catch for 2 yards against the Tennessee Titans. [4] Banks was released by the Chargers on November 15, 2010. [5]
Super Bowl XXIX was an American football game between the American Football Conference (AFC) champion San Diego Chargers and the National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco 49ers to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 1994 season. The 49ers defeated the Chargers by the score of 49–26, becoming the first team to win five Super Bowl championships. The game was played on January 29, 1995, at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami, Florida. In turn, this was the first Super Bowl to be played in that area after Hurricane Andrew ravaged the city in 1992.
Matthew Brennan Cassel is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons. A member of seven NFL teams, Cassel's most notable stints were with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. He played college football at USC and was selected by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Since retiring, Cassel has served as a television football analyst on NBC Sports Boston.
Roderick Duane Smith is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver for 14 seasons for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Missouri Southern Lions. He was originally signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent and played his entire career with the team. As of 2023's offseason, his 849 career receptions and 11,389 receiving yards ranked him 30th all-time for receptions and 34th for yards.
Kassim Alexandre Osgood is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver and special teamer in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for San Diego State University and Cal Poly, and was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2003. He has played for the San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers.
Curtis Lamont Conway Sr is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the USC Trojans and was selected by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft. Conway also played in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers.
James Kelley Washington is a former American Football wide receiver and special teamer. He was selected 65th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Tennessee.
Nate Washington is a former American football wide receiver. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2005 and played on two Super Bowl-winning teams during four seasons with the Steelers. He then played six seasons for the Tennessee Titans before playing his eleventh and final season for the Houston Texans.

John Larry Jefferson is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). After playing college football with the Arizona State Sun Devils, he was selected in the first round of the 1978 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. He played three seasons in San Diego, where he became the first NFL player to gain 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons. He was traded to the Green Bay Packers after a contract dispute with the Chargers, and later finished his playing career with the Cleveland Browns.
