Gay Nineties are a Canadian indie rock band, with stylistic roots in music from the 1970s to the 1990s. [1] [2]

History

Taking their name from the decadent last decade of the 19th century, the band originally comprised Parker Bossley (vocals, guitar) and Malcolm Holt (drums), who had previously played together in Fake Shark - Real Zombie!. [3] The band became a four-piece with the addition of Bruce Ledingham IV (keyboards) and Daniel Knowlton (bass guitar, vocals). [3] [4] [5] [6]

The band released an EP, Coming Together in 2011. [3] [7] Their 2014 song "Letterman" charted at no. 8 on the Alternative Rock (Mediabase) chart. [8]

In 2014 the band was nominated for a CASBY Award for Favourite New Artist. [9] A second single, "Hold Your Fire", received regular radio airplay in 2015. [10]

Their EP Liberal Guilt was released in January, 2015 on Love Letter Recordings/Fontana North. [11] It is a collection of songs inspired by 70s AM pop, glam rock, and indie rock. [1]

In February 2017 the band released the album Decadent Days. [12]

Members of the band have also played in Hot Hot Heat, Youngblood, Fur Trade, and Mounties. [12] [13]

Fake Shark is a Canadian alternative rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally formed in 2005, while their early musical style mainly combined elements of dance punk, post-hardcore and IDM, the group gradually evolved to a more commercially streamlined sound in 2015, within the realm of indie rock, electro pop, new wave and slacker rock. They are best known for their 2021 hit single, "Loser", which charted to #3 on the Canadian alternative radio and are currently signed to Canadian independent label, Light Organ Records.

Tokyo Police Club is an indie rock band from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 2005, it consists of vocalist and bassist Dave Monks, keyboardist Graham Wright, guitarist Josh Hook, and drummer Greg Alsop. The band found early success with their 2006 debut EP A Lesson in Crime, which they followed with several popular releases including the albums Elephant Shell and Champ in 2008 and 2010, respectively. During the 2010s, they released three other studio albums. Among other nominations, the band has been twice nominated for the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year, in 2011 for Champ and in 2019 for TPC. They announced their breakup in 2024.

Echosmith is an American indie pop band formed in February 2006 in Chino, California. Originally formed as a quartet of siblings, the band currently consists of Sydney, Noah, and Graham Sierota, following the departure of eldest sibling Jamie in 2016. Echosmith started first as "Ready Set Go!" until they signed to Warner Bros. Records in May 2012. They are best known for the song "Cool Kids", which reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA with over 1,200,000 sales in the United States and also double platinum by ARIA in Australia. McCollum and his backing band announced a 2015 tour of Texas in support of the album, performing at events such as RedGorilla Music Fest. McCollum released the EP Probably Wrong: Session One on July 7, 2017, and followed it with Probably Wrong: Session Two on September 8, 2017. The full Probably Wrong album was released on November 10, 2017. His major-label debut album, Gold Chain Cowboy, was released July 30, 2021.
