The TFF First League, officially known as Trendyol 1. Lig for sponsorship reasons, is the second level of the Turkish football league system. The league was founded in 2001 as the Turkish Second League Category A after the reorganization of the Second Football League, which was the second level of the Turkish league system between 1963 and 2001. The league was called Türk Telekom Lig A in the 2006–2007 season, and was renamed to TFF First League prior to the 2007–08 season. As of 16 January 2008 the league was renamed as Bank Asya 1. Lig. In April 2012 Bank Asya withdrew as sponsor of the league. During the 2012–2016 seasons the league was known under the terms of a sponsorship deal as the PTT 1. Lig. Nowadays the league is called the TFF First League once again.

Aydınspor 1923 is a Turkish sports club based in Aydın. The football club plays in the Turkish Amateur Football Leagues. The club's former name was "Aydın Belediyespor" before 2011 and former colours were blue-white. Aydınspor 1923 became first team of city of Aydın after demise of Aydınspor, was founded in 1923 and became professional in 1966, after relegation to amateur level in 2009. Aydınspor finally withdrew from Aydın Super Amateur League in 2011. Aydınspor returned to Aydın 5th Group of 2nd Amateur League in 2014 and promoted to 1st Amateur League. They finished 4th Group of 1st Amateur League as 3rd in 2015. They finished 3rd Group of one as champions and returned to Aydın Super Amateur League in 2015–16 season.

Mersin İdman Yurdu was a Turkish sports club from Mersin, Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean Region. The team played in the Turkish first division for 15 seasons, and after the 1983–84 season the football team played in the Turkish second and third divisions. The team was promoted to the Turkish second level division after the 2008–09 season. MİY became the champions of the Turkish second division during the 2010–11 season and earned promotion to the Turkish Süper Lig during the 2011–12 season. Tevfik Sırrı Gür Stadium was the previous ground of the team with a capacity of 10,125. The 2001–02 Turkish Cup was the 43rd edition of the annual tournament that determined the association football Super League Turkish Cup champion under the auspices of the Turkish Football Federation. Kocaelispor successfully contested Beşiktaş by 4–0 in the final. The results of the tournament also determined which clubs would be promoted or relegated.
