Geetha Kailasam is an Indian film producer and actress who has been predominantly working on Tamil language films. Her father-in-law K. Balachander was a veteran film director and her husband Bala Kailasam was also a filmmaker. [1] She produced films under the production banner Minbimbangal.
She pursued her career as a chartered accountant, although she initially developed a firm interest and passion towards pursuing her career in acting. [2] [1] [3] [4] Following her marriage with K. Balachander's son, Bala Kailasam, she took over the control of the Minbimbangal film production banner by auditing financial statements and later gradually began concentrating on producing commercial feature films, while also balancing her career aspirations as a chartered accountant. [1] She encouraged young female artists to utilise their skills effectively in order to stay relevant in the film industry, as such artists were under the watchful eyes of her during film shooting sessions funded by her film production company Minbimbangal. She produced television soap operas like Anni and Sahana, which were under the helm of her father-in-law K. Balachander's direction, as he also handled the story and screenplay of such television soap operas. [1] In April 2018, she directed her debut theatre play titled Oru Sila Pala Nimidamum Pechum as a tribute to K. Balachander and the play was based on the struggles women face in daily life. [3] [6] Following her husband's death in 2014, she made the decision to act in films to look after her family as a breadwinner and asked for callsheets from filmmakers to cast her in films. [2]
In 2019, she was signed up to play a role in Ganesh Babu's directorial venture Kattil , after being approached with the script narrated by Ganesh Babu to her, and upon listening to the script, she felt that there is a scope for her in terms of showcasing her acting potential. [7] She began playing supporting roles in films, primarily in characterisation of motherhood roles including Maamannan (2023), Star (2024), Lubber Pandhu (2024), Amaran (2024) and Angammal (2024). [8] [9] [10] [11] Her performance in the war action film, Amaran was critically acclaimed for her blend of humorous and serious emotional sequences during her dialogues with lead actor Sivakarthikeyan, playing the role of his mother to showcase a curious case of a paradoxical mother-son relationship due to the creative differences that erupt between them over the military. [12] [13] Geetha's sufficient screen presence elevated the characterization of her, which had been one of the main pillars of the film's engaging screenplay. [14]
Kailasam Balachandar was an Indian playwright, film director, film producer, screenwriter and actor who worked mainly in the Tamil cinema. He was well known for his distinct film-making style, and the Indian film industry knew him as a master of unconventional themes and hard-hitting contemporary subject matter. Balachander's films are well known for their portrayal of women as bold personalities and central characters. Popularly referred to as Iyakkunar Sigaram, his films are usually centred on unusual or complicated interpersonal relationships and social themes. He started his film career in 1964 as a screenwriter and graduated to a director with Neerkumizhi (1965).

Ninaithale Inikkum is a 1979 Indian Tamil-language film directed by K. Balachander starring Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Jaya Prada and Geetha. The story was written by Sujatha. The film was also simultaneously shot in Telugu as Andamaina Anubhavam. A large part of the film was shot in Singapore. The film was later dubbed in Hindi as Pyara Tarana.
Nizhal Nijamagiradhu is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language film, directed by K. Balachander, starring Kamal Haasan, Sarath Babu, Sumithra and Hanumanthu, and introduced Shoba to Tamil cinema. It is a remake of the Malayalam film Adimakal. The film was released on 24 March 1978.

E. V. Ganesh Babu is an Indian film director, writer and actor who works in Tamil-language films. He made his acting debut with Bharathi (2000) and played Vijay's friend in four films including Sivakasi (2005). He worked as an assistant director for Thenpandi Singam (2016) before making his debut as a director with Yamuna (2013). He directed and starred in a film titled Kattil opposite Srushti Dange, which was screened in 2021 at a Innovative International Film Festival. In 2022, he adapted the script of Kattil into a book.
Major Mukund Varadarajan AC was an Indian Army officer and a recipient of the Ashoka Chakra. Mukund, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment, was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his actions during a counterterrorism operation while on deputation to the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir. His biographical film in Tamil, Amaran, was released on the occasion of Diwali, 31 October 2024.

It became a blockbuster at the box-office, running for over 100 days all over Tamil Nadu. The film was a remake of Kannada film Devara Kannu.
Kaviya Thalaivi is a 1970 Indian Tamil-language film, written and directed by K. Balachander and produced by Sowcar Janaki. It is a remake of the 1963 Bengali film Uttar Falguni. Janaki also stars alongside Gemini Ganesan, Ravichandran and M. R. R. Vasu. The film was released on 29 October 1970, Diwali day, and became a success. For his performance, Ganesan won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor.
Kolamaavu Kokila abbreviated as COCO, is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language black comedy crime film written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar in his directorial debut, and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah of Lyca Productions. The film stars Nayanthara, alongside a supporting cast including Yogi Babu, Saranya Ponvannan, VJ Jacqueline, R. S. Shivaji, Charles Vinoth and Hareesh Peradi. Maamannan (transl. Emperor) is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language political drama film written and directed by Mari Selvaraj, and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. The film stars Vadivelu as the title character, along with Fahadh Faasil, Keerthy Suresh, and Udhayanidhi in his final acting credit.
Amaran is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language biographical action war film directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, together with Sony Pictures Films India. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan, alongside Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose and Bhuvan Arora. It is an adaptation of the book series India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which contains a segment based on Mukund. The film follows Indhu Rebecca Varghese, Mukund's wife, who narrates the life of the Major on her way to New Delhi to receive the Ashoka Chakra, which was awarded posthumously to Mukund.

Lubber Pandhu is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language sports drama film directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, in his directorial debut and produced by Prince Pictures.
