Geoffrey M. Heal is a British-American economist known for his work on environmental and resource economics. He is the Donald C. Waite III Professor of Social Enterprise at Columbia Business School. [1]
Heal was born in 1944 in Bangor,Wales. He received his bachelor's,master's,and doctorate,all from Churchill College,Cambridge. [2] He taught at Christ's College,Cambridge from 1968 to 1973,before joining the faculty of the University of Sussex from 1973 to 1980 and the University of Essex from 1980 to 1983. He joined the faculty of Columbia Business School in 1983 as a professor economics.
Heal also held visiting professor positions at Yale University,Stanford University,University of Paris XII:Paris-Val-de-Marne,Princeton University,Stockholm University,University of Minnesota,University of Siena,and University of Paris X-Nanterre. [3] He also worked at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis as a research scholar. [4]
From 1972 to 1976,Heal was a managing editor of the Review of Economic Studies. He was elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society in 1977. He was made President of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists in 1982 and was made a life fellow of the association in 2006. [1] He received a best paper of 2013 award from the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists in 2014. [1]
Heal was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences in 2016. [5] He also received an honorary doctorate from the Universitéde Paris Dauphine in 2008.

Leonid Hurwicz was a Polish-American economist and mathematician,known for his work in game theory and mechanism design. He originated the concept of incentive compatibility,and showed how desired outcomes can be achieved by using incentive compatible mechanism design. Hurwicz shared the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his seminal work on mechanism design. Hurwicz was one of the oldest Nobel Laureates,having received the prize at the age of 90.
David Bruce Audretsch is an American economist. He is a distinguished professor at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University and also serves as director of the SPEA International Office,Ameritech Chair of Economic Development,and director of SPEA's Institute for Development Strategies (IDS). He is co-founder and co-editor of Small Business Economics:An Entrepreneurship Journal,and also works as a consultant to the United Nations,the World Bank,the OECD,the EU Commission,and the U.S. Department of State. He was the Director of the Entrepreneurship,Growth and Public Policy Group at the Max Planck Institute of Economics in Germany from 2003 to 2009. Since 2020,he also serves as a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of Klagenfurt.
