George Irumbayam is an Indian literary critic and literature researcher. Author of 39 literary and 7 spiritual books. [1]
He was born on 19 December 1938 as the eldest child of Irumbayam Poovathunkal Varkey and Annamma, who totally had four children. He studied in the Kaarikkodu-Pothi-Thalayolapparambu schools between 1945 and 1956, and at St. Thomas College Pala from 1956 to 1957. He also studied at Sacred heart college Thevara (1958-1961), University college, Trivandrum (1961-1962) and at aMaharajas College (1962-1963). He received his Masters from Kerala University for Malayalam and English, and the Masters Gandhism from Madhura university, Ph.D from Calicut university, and passed B.A. and M.A. with first rank.
George worked as the president of the Malayalam Protection Council (Malayala Samrakshana Vaedi) from 1989 onwards
He got T.K.Joseph gold medal for first rank in BA and Dr. Godavarma award for first rank in MA (Malayalam). Then he became a Malayalam college lecturer in 1963 at Sacred heart college, Thevara and from 1966 onwards in Government colleges at Madappally, Kozhikode, Palakkad and as professor at Thalassery, Calicut. He retired from Ernakulam Maharaja's as head of department in 1994 after his start there in 1986.
He edited novels and wrote many literary criticism books. He was a member of the editors' committee of periodicals such as Kerala digest, Kolaya, Sahithya Niroopanam and the Keralsamskara. He served as president of Calicut Book Club. He was a member of many government -university committees and academic councils. Gaandhi's autobiography was translated into Malayalam by George Irumbayam, which sold over 400,000 copies in 4 years. Also, he has translated one of the Sherlock Holmes books. He has written and published many spiritual books as well. [2]
George is married to Theresa Valavi, and he has three children - Two sons named Jaison and Jesus, and a daughter named Sindhu. The couple live in Kochi.
Hermann Gundert was a German missionary, scholar, and linguist, as well as the maternal grandfather of German novelist and Nobel laureate Hermann Hesse. Gundert is chiefly known for his contributions as an Indologist, and compiled a Malayalam grammar book, Malayalabhaasha Vyakaranam (1859), in which he developed and constricted the grammar spoken by the Malayalis, nowadays; a Malayalam-English dictionary (1872), and contributed to work on Bible translations into Malayalam. He worked primarily at Tellicherry on the Malabar coast, in present day Kerala, India. Gundert also contributed to the fields of history, geography and astronomy.
Vallathol Narayana Menon was a Malayalam poet and one of the triumvirate of modern Malayalam poetry, along with Asan and Ulloor. The honorific Mahakavi was applied to him in 1913 after the publication of his MahakavyaChitrayogam. He was a nationalist poet and wrote a series of poems on various aspects of the Indian freedom movement. He founded the Kerala Kalamandalam and is credited with revitalising the traditional Keralite dance form known as Kathakali.
Sankarankutty Kunjiraman Pottekkatt was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature, traveller, and politician from Kerala. Best known for his travelogues, he has authored nearly 60 books, which include 10 novels, 24 collections of short stories, three anthologies of poems, 18 travelogues, four plays, a collection of essays and a couple of books based on personal reminiscences.
Karikkatt Marathu Kuttikrishna Marar was an Indian essayist and literary critic of Malayalam literature. He was known for Bharathaparyaadanam, a critical study of the Mahabharata, which is counted by many among the most influential books in Malayalam and was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
St. Thomas' College (Autonomous), Thrissur, is a government aided college located in Thrissur, Kerala, India. It is founded by Mar Adolph Medlycott in 1889. It is the oldest college in the Erstwhile Princely State of Cochin and present day Thrissur district. Parutholli Chalappurathu Kuttikrishnan, popularly known by his pen name Uroob was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature. Along with Basheer, Thakazhi, Kesavadev, and Pottekkatt, Uroob was counted among the progressive writers in Malayalam during the twentieth century. He was known for his novels such as Sundarikalum Sundaranmarum and Ummachu, short stories like Rachiyamma and the screenplays of a number of Malayalam films including Neelakuyil, the first Malayalam feature film to receive the National Film Award. He was a recipient of several honours including Kendra Sahithya Academy Award and the inaugural Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel.
Alappat Sreedhara Menon, known as A. Sreedhara Menon, was an Indian historian from Kerala. He is best known as the State Editor (1958–68) of Kerala District Gazetteers (1961–1975). He served as registrar of the Kerala University from 1968 to 1977, before retiring in 1980.

During her long literary career, she won several awards including Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. She is a contemporary of such noted critics in Malayalam including K. M. George, S. Guptan Nair, N. Krishna Pillai, P. K. Balakrishnan, M. K. Sanu and Sukumar Azhikode. Leelavathy is a recipient of the Padma Shri Award.

Plakkiyil Chacko Devassia, often known as Mahakavi P. C. Devassia, was a Sanskrit scholar and poet from Kerala, India. In 1980 he won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Sanskrit for his Mahakavyam Kristubhagavatam. He has also received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his overall contributions to Malayalam literature.
Unnikrishnan Puthur was a Malayalam–language novelist and short story writer. Puthur wrote about 700 short stories and published 29 collections of short stories, 15 novels, a collection of poems and autobiographical writings, among others. He was awarded Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the novel Balikkallu in 1968. He received the Odakkuzhal Award in the year 2010 for the book Anubhavangalude Ner Rekhakal.

Thattarassery Mathai Chummar, commonly identified as T. M. Chummar, was an Indian academic and writer of Malayalam literature, best known for his books on its history. An associate of G. Sankara Kurup and Vailoppilli Sreedhara Menon, Chummar's books on Kunchan Nambiar and C. V. Raman Pillai detail their literary contributions. He was a recipient of the title Sahitya Nipunan, conferred on him by the Rajah of Cochin. The Kerala Sahitya Akademi honoured him with the distinguished fellowship in 1986.
