Georgia Coates (born 19 February 1999) is a British swimmer who won five medals at the 2015 European Games. She has been selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Personal life

Coates was born on 19 February 1999 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. [2] She attends Prince Henry's Grammar School, Otley where she earned 12 GCSEs, completing her final exam in Baku whilst competing at the 2015 European Games. [3]

Swimming

Coates is a member of the City of Leeds Swimming Club where she is coached by Richard Denigan. [3] In 2013, she represented Great Britain at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands. [4]

She was selected to swim for Great Britain at the 2015 European Games held in Baku, Azerbaijan. In the 100-metre freestyle she reached the semi-finals and finished 12th in a time of 57.35 seconds. [5] She reached the final of the 400-metre individual medley but missed out on a medal after finishing fourth. [6] [7] She won her first medal, a bronze, in the women's 4 × 100-metre freestyle relay alongside Darcy Deakin, Maddie Crompton and Hannah Featherstone. [8] [9] In the mixed 4 × 100-metre freestyle relay Coates, Deakin, Martyn Walton and Duncan Scott won a silver medal behind the Russian quartet. [10] [11] She placed fifth in the 200-metre breaststroke, [12] she won further bronze medals in the women's 4 × 200-metre freestyle relay and the women's 4 × 100-metre medley relay. [13] [14] [15] She won her fifth medal of the Games in the mixed 4 × 100-metre medley relay, as the British team, which also featured Luke Greenbank, Charlie Attwood and Amelia Clynes, took silver behind Russia. At the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships held in Singapore, she won two medals. She won a silver medal, finishing second to British team mate Rosie Rudin, in the girl's 400-metre individual medley, the took the bronze medal in the 200-metre individual relay. [18]

Coates finished third in the 200-metre freestyle at the 2016 British National Championships. [3] As a result, she was selected as part of the Great Britain team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she will compete in the 4 × 200-metre freestyle relay with Jazmin Carlin, Ellie Faulkner and Camilla Hattersley. Swimming competitions at the 2015 SEA Games was held at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in the Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang, Singapore from 6 to 11 June 2015. Built only a year earlier, the venue is hosting the SEA Games for the first time. It was used to host the second Southeast Asian Swimming Championships in 2014 as a test bed for the organisers, with the 2015 Southeast Asian Games volunteers hired to also volunteer in the 2014 Swimming Championships to help in the familiarisation of the new venue.

Luke Greenbank is an English professional swimmer who specialises in backstroke. A medalist in the 200 metre backstroke at the Olympic Games and the World and European championships, he also swam the first leg in the 2019 World and 2020 European Championship gold medal-winning Great Britain medley relay teams. He won a silver medal as lead-off for Great Britain in the 4 x 100 metre medley relay for men at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He won a gold medal as lead-off for England in the heats of the 4 x 100 metre medley relay for men at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Scott made history after winning four medals - more than any other British athlete at a single Olympic Games - in Tokyo 2020, simultaneously becoming Great Britain's most decorated swimmer in Olympic history. Freya Ann Alexandra Anderson is a British swimmer, known primarily for her achievements as a freestyle sprinter, especially as a relay swimmer for Great Britain. Anderson achieved nine relay gold medals at three editions of the European Championships, including 5 golds in a single meet at the 2020 European Championships in Budapest, as well as two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. Swimming has featured as a sport at the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival since its first edition in 1991. It has appeared on the programme at every subsequent edition of the biennial multi-sport event for European athletes under the age of 18.
