The United States Football League (USFL) was a professional American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be played in the autumn/winter, directly competing against the long-established National Football League (NFL). However, the USFL ceased operations before that season was scheduled to begin.

The 1983 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 26–27, 1983, at the New York Sheraton Hotel in New York City, New York. No teams elected to claim any players in the supplemental draft that year.

Joseph Charles Ehrmann is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) from 1973 through 1982. He played college football for the Syracuse Orangemen and was selected in the first round of the 1973 NFL draft by the Baltimore Colts with the 10th overall pick. Ehrmann is currently the President of the InSideOut Initiative. Ehrmann played with Baltimore for eight years as a member of the "Sack Pack," and finished his NFL career with the Detroit Lions as part of their vaunted Silver Rush defensive line in the early 1980s. He then played in the United States Football League (USFL) for the Chicago Blitz, Arizona Wranglers and Orlando Renegades.
George R. Achica is an American former professional football defensive tackle. Achica played professionally for the Los Angeles Express of the United States Football League (USFL), and the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Southern California, and was recognized as a consensus All-American.

James Arthur Smith is an American former professional football player who was wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines from 1974 to 1976. He played in the NFL for six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1977 to 1982 before starring on the Birmingham Stallions of the rival United States Football League (USFL). After the USFL's demise, Smith played a final season for the Los Angeles Raiders in 1985.
Alan David Risher is a former quarterback for the LSU Tigers and the United States Football League (USFL), where he played for the Arizona Wranglers. The USFL was a 12 team league in 1983, so although Risher was drafted 170th overall in the league's 1983 draft, he was actually the team's 15th round pick that year. Risher was the starting quarterback for the Wranglers for most of the league's initial 1983 season. He is known best for directing what is widely acknowledged as the greatest upset in USFL history. He backed up Greg Landry on the 1984 Western Conference Champion Wranglers squad.

He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and won Super Bowl XLVII with them. Jones has also played for the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins. He is also the older brother of UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, and Super Bowl winner, former defensive end Chandler Jones of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Byron Keith Lee is a former American football linebacker who played for two seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Ohio State. He was drafted by the New Jersey Generals in the 1986 USFL Territorial Draft, but did not sign with the team, as he was also drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 1986 NFL Draft. He was waived by the Eagles during final roster cuts on August 19, 1986, but was re-signed on October 15. He played for the Eagles in 1986 and 1987, and was an offseason member of the Los Angeles Raiders in 1988. He played for the Columbus Thunderbolts of the Arena Football League (AFL) in 1991.
The United States Football League was a proposed American professional football minor league founded in 2008 and aimed to begin play on February 20, 2010. The league was also known as the New United States Football League to distinguish it from the 1983–85 league of the same name. During its lifetime, the league had three different owner groups, with the last one aimed to start a season in 2015, but the plans never materialized; it was not until 2022 that a new version of the USFL would come to fruition; none of these versions of the USFL are directly related to each other.
