The Challenge is a reality competition show on MTV that is a spin-off of two of the network's reality shows, The Real World and Road Rules. Premiering in 1998, it originally featured alumni from these two shows. Casting for The Challenge has slowly expanded to include contestants who debuted on The Challenge itself, alumni from other MTV franchises including Are You the One?, Ex on the Beach, Geordie Shore, and from other non-MTV shows and competitions. Starting in 2018, new contestants were chosen outside of MTV network alumni from different networks. The contestants compete against one another in various extreme challenges to avoid elimination. The winners of the final challenge win the competition and typically share a large cash prize. The Challenge is currently hosted by T. J. Lavin.

Filming locations include a trip to the Algarve in Portugal, Ibiza and Newcastle upon Tyne. The first trailer for the season was released in late August 2022 and premiered later that year on September 20. This was the final series to feature Marty McKenna after he was suspended from MTV. This series appears as "Geordie Shore: The Reunion Series" and not as a spin off of the show. This series brings together the cast members to celebrate Geordie Shore's 10th anniversary.
The tenth season of Acapulco Shore, a Mexican television programme based in Acapulco was announced in August 2022 and premiered on September 27, 2022. Filming started in June 2022 in the coastal city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, making this the second time the show is filmed in this city. Days after filming began rolling, a possible case of COVID-19 among cast members caused filming to be put on hold for a few days, before resuming. This season was announced in February 2022, via a Viacom press release. On August 28, 2022, the cast members were announced. This season marks the return of original cast member, Luis “Jawy” Méndez since his last appearance in Season 7. New cast members this season include Andrés Cervantes, Abel Robles, Elizabeth Varela, who previously participated in AYTO? and Resistiré, Ricardo “Ricky” Ochoa and Sebastián Gálvez, Alejandra Varela and Roberto Mora debuted later. The trailer of the season was released on September 12, 2022. Jaylin Castellanos and Rocío Sánchez were featured guests this season, while original castmember Fernando Lozada guest appeared in the final 2 episodes.
The second season of the De Férias com o Ex Caribe, also known as De Férias com o Ex Caribe: Salseiro VIP, premiered on MTV on November 15, 2022. It features ten celebrity singles living together on Isla Barú, Colombia with their ex-partners.
The fourth season of Ex on the Beach Italy, an Italian television programme, began airing on November 30, 2022, on MTV Italy and for the first time on Paramount+, after Paramount Global announced in September 2022 the acquisition of the rights to the series. It was filmed for the second time on an island in Cartagena, Colombia.
