In Nigeria, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) is a title given to a person in charge of the Independent National Electoral Commission at the state level. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, assisted by relevant government agencies, undertakes the Presidential, National Assembly, Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in a state. The Resident Electoral Commissioner acts pursuant to powers delegated to him or her by INEC's national Chairman and 12 Commissioners. Among the duties of the REC is to make available all the materials required to conduct an election. In some places, the vote was delayed until 24 February due to electoral violence. Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi is a Nigerian politician who served as the senator representing Delta North senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate from 2015 to 2023. He was sacked shortly after being announced senator-elect during the 2019 general elections by a Federal High Court in Abuja, following allegations that he was not validly elected by his political party. The Appeal Court in Abuja however overturned the decision on 30 May 2019. The lead judge held that the Federal High Court that nullified his election had no jurisdiction over the case.

Muhammad Kudu Haruna is a Nigerian journalist, political columnist, administrator and Resident Electoral Commissioner of the INEC since 2015. He is among the six members appointed INEC commissioners, he is committing the Kwara, Kogi and Kaduna State. He assumed office in September 2016.
The 2015 Nasarawa State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on April 11, 2015, the APC nominee Umaru Tanko Al-Makura won re-election, defeating Labaran Maku of the APGA.
The 2023 Cross River State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Cross River State, concurrent with elections to the Cross River State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Benedict Ayade was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Former Senator Bassey Otu held the office for the APC by a 17.5% margin over PDP nominee — Senator Sandy Ojang Onor.
The 2023 Delta State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Delta State, concurrent with elections to the Delta State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Speaker of the House of Assembly Sheriff Oborevwori held the office for the PDP by a 18% margin over Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (APC).
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Rivers State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Rivers State. Betty Apiafi representing Rivers West, Barry Mpigi representing Rivers South East and George Thompson Sekibo representing Rivers East all won on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.
