INEC Rivers State Branch Office is the branch of the Independent National Electoral Commission that organizes, undertakes and supervises elections to federal and state executive as well as legislative government offices in Rivers State. [1] It is led by a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), currently Obo Effanga.

Rivers State, also known simply as Rivers, is one of the 36 states of Nigeria. According to census data released in 2006, the state has a population of 5,198,716, making it the sixth-most populous state in the country. Its capital and largest city, Port Harcourt, is economically significant as the centre of Nigeria's oil industry. Rivers State is bounded on the South by the Atlantic Ocean, to the North by Imo, Abia and Anambra States, to the East by Akwa Ibom State, and to the West by Bayelsa and Delta states. In Nigeria, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) is a title given to a person in charge of the Independent National Electoral Commission at the state level. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, assisted by relevant government agencies, undertakes the Presidential, National Assembly, Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in a state. The Resident Electoral Commissioner acts pursuant to powers delegated to him or her by INEC's national Chairman and 12 Commissioners. Among the duties of the REC is to make available all the materials required to conduct an election. The REC also, monitors the activities of all ad hoc staff and provides for proper verification of election results.

Gesila Khan is the current Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission Cross River State Branch. She held the same position at the Delta State Branch from 2012 to 2014 and at the Rivers State Branch from 2014 to 2016.

Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar

Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar is the former governor of Bauchi State, Nigeria. He began his career in the Civil Service where he rose through the ranks to become the Bauchi State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. He ran for public office as Governor of Bauchi State in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, the state's opposition party. The 2015 Kogi Gubernatorial election was held on 21 November 2015 to determine the governor for Kogi State.The gubernatorial election is to elect the governor of Kogi state; the official at the head of the executive branch of a state. The last Kogi state gubernatorial election was held in 2011. The incumbent governor, Captain Idris Wada, ran for re-election against the former governor, Prince Audu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
