The Ghana Planetarium is located behind the Ghana Police Headquarters in Cantonments, Accra. It is open throughout the year.
The planetarium of Accra was founded by Dr. Jacob and Jane Ashong and was constructed from their pension in 2009. [1] It was officially opened on Thursday January 22, 2009 [2] by the British High Commissioner, Nicholas Westcott. Also attending were The British Council Director, The French Ambassador and the Chief of Nungua and his entourage.

Ga West Municipal District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Ga District in 1988, until the eastern part of the district was split off to create Ga East District in 2004; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Ga West District. Later, the western part of the district was split off to create the first Ga South Municipal District on 29 February 2008, with Weija as its capital town; while Ga West was later elevated to municipal district assembly status during that same year to become Ga West Municipal District. It was the site of fighting during the June 1979 coup that placed Jerry Rawlings in power. The museum was opened on 5 March 1957. The Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute (GSSTI) was opened officially on 2 May 2012 as Ghana’s first space science, space exploration, astronomy and technology space agency. It is an Institution under the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. GSSTI and Ghana Space Agency (GhSA) aim to become an arena of excellence in space science, space exploration and space technology through teaching, learning, private spaceflight and space research commercialisation.
