Gloria Ghishma Barry (died 24 November 2017) was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature. She served as the Eastern Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport and Safety under Premier Noxolo Kiviet from May 2009 to November 2010. A founding member of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa,she was also a former member of the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC's Eastern Cape branch.
Barry was one of the founding members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa and served as its Regional Secretary. [1] [2] After the ANC was unbanned in 1990,she joined its interim leadership corps in the Eastern Cape. [1] After the end of apartheid,she was elected to represent the party in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature,where she served for a period as Deputy Speaker. [2] She also served as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee of the Eastern Cape ANC. [2]
Barry was appointed to the Eastern Cape Executive Council after the 2009 general election,when Premier Noxolo Kiviet named her as MEC for Transport and Safety. Under Barry's leadership,the Department of Transport and Safety completed a R100-million upgrade to the East London Airport and launched a R3-billion ten-year plan for infrastructure investment. [3] [4] However,Barry was in office for less than two years:on 27 November 2010,Kiviet announced a major reshuffle in which she was removed from the Executive Council and her former portfolio was abolished. Barry died on the morning of 24 November 2017 after a long illness with cancer. She was Muslim and her funeral service was held at Gavin Park Mosque in Port Elizabeth. [1] [7]
Qubudile Richard Dyantyi has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly since 2019. Before that,he was a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament and served as the Western Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Housing from 2005 to 2008. In 2021,he was elected chairperson of the national parliament's Committee for the Section 194 Enquiry into Busisiwe Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office.
Noxolo Kiviet is a South African politician who has served as the Minister of Public Service and Administration since March 2023. She was formerly the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure from 2019 to 2023 and also served as the Premier of the Eastern Cape from 2009 to 2014.
Sylvia Nomandla Bloem is a South African politician who is the current Northern Cape MEC for Transport and Safety Liaison. She was appointed to the post in June 2020. She has been a member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. From May 2019 to June 2020,she served as the Northern Cape MEC for Land Reform,Agriculture and Nature Conservation and Environmental Affairs. Bloem is a member of the African National Congress.
Nontobeko Eveline Vilakazi is a South African politician serving as the Northern Cape MEC for Social Development since June 2020. She has been a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. From May 2019 to June 2020,she was the Northern Cape MEC for Transport and Safety Liaison. Vilakazi is a member of the African National Congress and the provincial secretary of the party's women's league.
Pemmy Castelina Pamela Majodina is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly since 2019. A member of the African National Congress,she is the party's chief whip in the assembly. She was formerly a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature between 2004 and 2019 and a Member of the provincial Executive Council for five different portfolios from 2008 to 2019,respectively. Majodina was a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from 1994 to 2004.
Nomakhosazana Meth is a South African politician who has been the Eastern Cape MEC for Health since March 2021 and a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. She was the MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform from May 2019 to March 2021. Meth is a member of the African National Congress. She was previously both the speaker and mayor of the OR Tambo District Municipality and the speaker of the Mbizana Local Municipality.
Pumza Patricia Dyantyi was a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist. A member of the African National Congress,Dyantyi was elected to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2014. She served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health from 2014 to 2018,when she was appointed MEC for Social Development. From 2019 Dyantyi was a member of the South African National Assembly.
Pauline Jeanette Williams is a retired South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2004. In 2009,she was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport,Arts and Culture. She left the legislature in 2014,only for her to return in 2015. She was then made MEC for Transport,Liaison and Safety in 2016. Williams was briefly out of the post in May 2017. In February 2018,she was made the MEC for Environmental Affairs. Williams left the legislature again in 2019.
Xolile Edmund Nqatha is a South African politician who has been the Eastern Cape MEC for Transport and Community Safety since 2022. A member of the African National Congress,he has been a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2009. Nqatha served as the MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform from 2018 to 2019 and as the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2019 to 2022. He is also the provincial secretary of the South African Communist Party.
Weziwe Tikana is a South African politician,educator and trade unionist. She was the Eastern Cape MEC for Transport,Safety and Liaison from 2014 until 2022. She has been a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2014. Tikana is a member of the African National Congress.
Gloria Bukiwe Fanta is a South African politician who has served in the Eastern Cape provincial government as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development since August 2022. She has been a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. Before joining the provincial legislature,Fanta had briefly been a Member of Parliament for less than three months,serving from February until May 2019. Fanta is the current provincial co-ordinator and former provincial chairperson of the African National Congress Women's League.

Mary Nombulelo Mabandla was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from May 2009 until her death in September 2011. During that time,she served as the Eastern Cape's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Human Settlements between May 2009 and November 2010. Before her election to the provincial legislature,Mabandla was an ANC Youth League activist and a local councillor in Mhlontlo Local Municipality,her hometown.
