Ghislaine Barnay (born 8 October 1945 in Fort-de-France, Martinique) is a former French athlete who specialises in the women's high jump. Barnay competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics.

Biography

Ghislaine Barnay won three French National Athletic titles in the High Jump, in 1967, 1968, and 1969. She bettered four times the French High Jump record, jumping successively 1.73m, 1.74m and 1.76m in 1968, then 1.80m in 1969.

She participated in the 1968 Olympic Games at Mexico, and placed ninth in the final with a jump of 1.71m.

She married Roger Bambuck in 1974. [1]

She initially finished sixth in the 2008 Olympic high jump final, but was promoted to the bronze medal in 2016 after three competitors were disqualified for doping. Alice Jean Arden-Hodge was an American athlete who competed in the women's high jump event at the Olympic games in Berlin in 1936. Raised in Long Island, New York, Arden won ten athletic letters during her high school career across several different sports. The only woman from the New York City area to have been selected for the 1936 Summer Olympics women's team, Arden placed ninth in the high jump event and never competed in the sport again. Soon after, she married basketball player Russell Hodge and together they had three children, one of whom was Russ Hodge, a decathlete at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. As of 2008, Arden and Hodge's participation make them the only mother-son Olympians in American history.

Ronald Lee Jourdan was an American college and Olympic track and field athlete. Jourdan was a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champion in the high jump from Florida and member of the 1972 U.S. Olympic team. Jourdan, along with Reynaldo Brown of California, were the last great American high jumpers to use the straight-leg straddle, the style which dominated the sport in the 1950s and 1960s. Jourdan's personal best was 7 feet 3 inches.
