The Ghost Research Society (formerly known as the Ghost Tracker's Club) is a paranormal research society, founded in the late 1970s by Martin V. Riccardo. [1]

History

The Society was founded as the Ghost Tracker's Club in 1977 but changed its name to the Ghost Research Society in 1982. [1]

Investigations

The Ghost Research Society began investigations in the late 1970s and has looked into many famous cases including those at Bachelor's Grove Cemetery. [1] Dale Kaczmarek, the current president, assumed his position in 1982. [2] From the outset of its investigations the society has endeavored to use technology. [3] In 1994, the organization collaborated with the American Society for Psychical Research to produce the National Directory of Haunted Places. [4]

Current status

Though the group is based in Oak Lawn, Illinois, [2] it has an international membership. [1] The society produces a quarterly newsletter called the Ghost Tracker's Newsletter [1] and gives bus tours of Chicago's supposedly haunted locations. [5]

The Enfield poltergeist was a claim of supernatural activity at 284 Green Street, a council house in Brimsdown, Enfield, London, England, between 1977 and 1979 involving two sisters, aged 11 and 13. Some members of the Society for Psychical Research such as inventor Maurice Grosse and writer Guy Lyon Playfair believed the haunting to be genuine, while others such as Anita Gregory and John Beloff were "unconvinced" and found evidence the girls had faked incidents for the benefit of journalists. Members of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, including stage magicians such as Milbourne Christopher and Joe Nickell, criticized paranormal investigators for being credulous whilst also identifying features of the case as being indicative of a hoax.

Ghost hunting is the process of investigating locations that are reported to be haunted by ghosts. Typically, a ghost-hunting team will attempt to collect evidence supporting the existence of paranormal activity. Ghost hunters use a variety of electronic devices, including EMF meters, digital thermometers, both handheld and static digital video cameras, including thermographic and night vision cameras, night vision goggles, as well as digital audio recorders. Other more traditional techniques are also used, such as conducting interviews and researching the history of allegedly haunted sites. Peter Underwood (parapsychologist) British parapsychologist (1923–2014)

Peter Underwood, was an English author, broadcaster and parapsychologist. Underwood was born in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Described as "an indefatigable ghost hunter", he wrote many books which surveyed alleged hauntings within the United Kingdom - beginning the trend of comprehensive regional 'guides' to (purportedly) haunted places. One of his well-known investigations concerned Borley Rectory, which he also wrote about.

The Ghost Club is a paranormal investigation and research organization, founded in London in 1862. It is believed to be the oldest such organization in the world, though its history has not been continuous. The club still investigates mainly ghosts and hauntings.

Douglas Scott Rogo was a writer, journalist and researcher on subjects related to parapsychology. Rogo was murdered in 1990 at the age of 40. His case remains unsolved.

The American Ghost Society is a paranormal investigative group which spans the entirety of North America. It was founded in 1995 by Troy and Amy Taylor in Alton, Illinois as the Ghost Society of Central Illinois, but was renamed in 1996. The society began holding annual conferences in the same year. By 1999 the group had 2,500 members.
