Gianluca Arrighi (born 3 October 1972) is an Italian writer and criminal lawyer.
Arrighi earned his MSc in Law, joining the Italian Bar Association in 2002. He has been Teaching Assistant of Criminal Law with both Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Cassino, and author of scholarly papers and articles published in law journals. He made his debut as a writer with Crimina romana in 2009: [1] Arrighi drew on his experience as criminal lawyer for this essay, a short story collection focusing on court cases he had handled, and which catalyzed him to start writing about actions of real offenders, focusing on their personal background and human traits. A limited edition of the book has been purchased by the Province of Rome under the Presidency of Nicola Zingaretti, and it was distributed as a reference reading for high school students as part of a project intended to promote a culture of lawfulness and to combat youth crime. Within this framework, Arrighi met about two hundred students, sitting for Q&A sessions about crimes and criminality. [2] He is the founder and president of "Priya", the association that fights against all forms of gender violence and offers legal assistance to the victims of these hateful crimes. [3] [4]
Arrighi released his first crime novel, Vincolo di sangue in 2012. [5] Based on a filicide case committed by Rosalia Quartararo in Summer 1993, the book featured in the Ibs list of best-selling books for six months, ranking sixth. [6]
In the same year, Italy’s top commercial broadcaster Mediaset interviewed Gianluca Arrighi as one of the eight best Italian crime writers. [7]
With L’inganno della memoria, published in March 2014, [8] Arrighi brought to life the fictional character Elia Preziosi, a Rome-based enigmatic and aloof public prosecutor. [9] L'inganno della memoria turned out to be the best-selling Italian legal thriller in 2014. [10] Elia Preziosi featured again in two of Arrighi’s following thriller novels: namely, Il confine dell’ombra [11] [12] and A un passo dalla follia. [13]
Oltre ogni verità is his first novel starring Jader Leoni. [14] [15] [16] [17]
Besides, since 2010 Arrighi has written several noir short stories.
One year after L'inganno della memoria was published, Arrighi was a victim of stalking. [18] His stalker - an aspiring writer who was later identified by the police and sentenced in court in Rome - confessed to investigators that he had persecuted Arrighi because he was envious of his success. [19] [20] [21]
Between 2020 and 2021, he published the novels Intrigo in Costa Verde [22] and Sulle orme del brivido. [23] On 17 June 2022 the thriller La casa sul fiume was released, for which the filmmaking rights have been sold. [24]
The graphic novel of the same name was adapted in 2023 from Arrighi's novel L'inganno della memoria, featuring the investigations of the fictional character Elia Preziosi. [25]

The term State-Mafia Pact describes an alleged series of negotiations between important Italian government officials and Cosa Nostra members that began after the period of the 1992 and 1993 terror attacks by the Sicilian Mafia with the aim to reach a deal to stop the attacks; according to other sources and hypotheses, it began even earlier. In summary, the supposed cornerstone of the deal was an end to "the Massacre Season" in return for a reduction in the detention measures provided for Italy's Article 41-bis prison regime. 41-bis was the law by which the Antimafia pool led by Giovanni Falcone had condemned hundreds of mafia members to the "hard prison regime". The negotiation hypothesis has been the subject of long investigations, both by the courts and in the media. In 2021, the Court of Appeal of Palermo acquitted a close associate of former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, while upholding the sentences of the mafia bosses. This ruling was confirmed by the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation in 2023.
