Gijsbrecht Thijmen Matthias "Gijs" Blom (born 2 January 1997) is a Dutch actor. He starred in the films Jongens (2014) and The Forgotten Battle (2020). [1] He received a Daytime Emmy nomination for his performance in the Netflix fantasy series The Letter for the King (2020). [2]
Blom is from Amsterdam. He is the son of the stage actress Marloes van den Heuvel. He graduated with a degree in theatre from Amsterdam University of the Arts' Academy of Theatre and Dance in 2021. [3] [4]
From 2007 to 2009, Blom starred in the musical Ciske de Rat . In 2011, Gijs Blom landed his first feature film role in Maria Peeters' Sonny Boy . He then had small roles in the 2012 television films Urfeld and Eine Frau verschwindet; the latter a German production.
Blom starred as Sieger in the 2014 coming-of-age romance film Jongens , for which he received critical acclaim and a Golden Calf nomination for Best Actor at the Netherlands Film Festival. That same year, he produced and starred as Thijmen in the short film Escapade [5] and appeared in the films Analgesics, [6] Nena , and Pijnstillers .
Blom starred as a disillusioned Axis soldier Marinus van Staveren in the multilingual World War II film The Forgotten Battle alongside Jamie Flatters and Susan Radder. [7] It is the second most expensive Dutch film production of all time and had an international release on Netflix in 2021. He also appeared in the films Dead & Beautiful and The Dutch Boys. Blom has a role in the Globoplay series Fallen. [8]

The Resistance Banker is a 2018 Dutch World War II period drama film directed by Joram Lürsen. It is based on the life of banker Walraven van Hall who financed the Dutch resistance during the war. It became the most-watched Dutch film of 2018 and was nominated for eleven Golden Calves, the first time that a film received so many nominations for the award. It won four Golden Calves, among them the prizes for Best Film and Best Actor. It was also selected as the Dutch entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
Redbad is a 2018 Dutch drama film directed by Roel Reiné. It is based on the life of Radbod, an early medieval Frisian leader. The film was intended as the middle part of a trilogy about iconic Dutch/Frisian heroes, starting with the film Michiel de Ruyter, about the 17th century admiral Michiel de Ruyter and ending with an unmade film about William of Orange.

The Forgotten Battle is a 2020 Dutch war drama film directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. that depicts the Battle of the Scheldt in 1944. The film follows a Dutch Axis soldier played by Gijs Blom, a British glider pilot played by Jamie Flatters, and a resistance woman from Zeeland played by Susan Radder.
